You guys are all quite handy with carpentry. Where does that experience come from?

Moonbase MkII looks pretty ballin' after your work.

I had a thought (surprising, I know):

How are you all (or for the rest of okies "Ya'll") going to address the MB 2.0 in CHustles to come? Is it going to be a big part of the plot or are you going to have someone just walk in and go, "Hmm, the moonbase looks different."? You don't have to answer because I'm aware that it might be a spoiler, but like I said, a thought.

I seem to end up doing a lot of things that require me to do this dance, you have no idea how much I sympathize.

Moonbase 2.0 looks great! From the first bit of video, it looks like the "office" was the whole thing and I was wondering why you wanted it, but then BAM second, huge-r room! It looks like you'll have plenty of space for running DB3 this year =p.

The big sliding door is neat, but that room is going to suck to heat. I might invest in some space heaters now, while they are cheap.

Also, if anyone else showed me a picture of their "weapons bin" I'd be slightly afraid.

Excellent work, fellas. How much to finish my basement =p?

So apparently there's like a 10+ ft. sheer drop through the sliding door.

You guys may want to fix that before Matt starts complaining about the health & safety regulations.

Anyone else think this video should have been done as an 80's fixing stuff montage?

Seriously though I am impressed with the amount of work that you guys put into the new moonbase. It looks like the investment was well worth it as the new place looks fantastic. I also like some of the tool improvisation in the blog pictures. Most notably the Tally weighted kicker.

Not in even the slightest actually. The space was rented out before as it was (before our renos) and it could have easily been rented out again in that condition.

Have you gotten the railing set up for the sliding door?

That said, I would bet your current landlord isn't upset at the vast improvements you made. I don't suppose he/she is planning to charge you twice as much next year because the space has been "newly renovated?" :?

OMG! I wonder if the crew has thought of this yet, but now the moonbase totally has a pod bay door! All they need to get is a glowing red eye, and they are set.

As for the landlord helping with renovations, the least the guy could do is suggest who to contact for a way to add security and safety to the new pod bay door.

considering they're in a renovatin' mood, maybe they can build a staircase up to the pod bay doors!

Then again, nothing they've done so far requires heavy-duty tools like the kind of saws you'd need to cut stringers and treads and whatnot. They might not be available.

I just wanted to get it out there I liked it more as the "New Moon Base" rather than the "Moonbase 2.0". The Twilight pun is just too good.

Moonbase 2.0 looks great! I don't know about the heating issue, they may have more problems cooling the room down, and the pod bay door will help with that. Victoria winters don't really get that cold. Might need one space heater for the small office if Graham (or anyone else) spends a lot of time editing alone, but get enough people in there and the room should be plenty warm. Especially if you turn on a couple of flood lights.

The open ceiling isn't the most attractive, but ceilings are a bitch to drywall (although having Bill around makes it a bit easier). Also, I <3 Graham for the PSA on safety glasses. Safety first, or at least a close third!

Great job on the Loading Time, Tim!

The plan with the ceiling was to actually drape fabric over it. Drywalling would be far to much work, along with the fact that our landlord doesn't want us doing it.

Mike Holmes approves!

For that matter, so does my step-father, who happened to be in the room at the time (which isn't surprising, given the day), and who also happens to be a retired contractor. He would have recommended stucco, though (he swears by that stuff).

I think the twist should be deemed the "Official Dance of Uncomfortable Situations". That works out for everybody (including people who have to go to the bathroom)!

Great work, guys. Both on the video and the Moonbase. I commend you, as usual.

If Mike Holmes had seen the room before we got to it, he would have wanted to re-build the entire place from the foundation up.
As it stands, he'd still shake his head in disappointment, but I like to think he respect the work we managed to do considering what we started with.

There's really only so much somebody who doesn't work in the trades can do. And you guys did a pretty respectable job considering most (if not all) of you don't do renos for a living. I say this not knowing what the members of the crew actually do when they're not working on the moon for the enjoyment of the Internet.

Honestly, if mike Holmes had seen the video, he'd likely be approving of the work you did, cause you didn't mess with things you didn't know how to deal with. Like the light switches on the side of the wall.

Leaving things as is, is 100% better than messing with it and altering it if you don't know what you're doing.
AND you reminded people to always wear their safety goggles. That's gotta count for something.

This strikes me as interesting. What would you have done differently if you had the time, resources and relevant skills? The space looks fine to me and you all put in the time to make it more than adequate.

If you had access to a quality electrician and carpenter, what would you change about the newly renovated Moonbase?
