The LRRPG

Postby Arius » 09 Oct 2009, 18:08

I've decided to work on an RPG featuring LRR.

Plot:

It's been a month since Geoff was defeated and realized the error of his ways. During this time, Morgan returned but he has been disappearing a lot. While the crew is attempting to shoot a video in which Morgan plays a key role, no one can find him. This is the last straw. The crew has a meeting in the moon base, discussing what to do about Morgan. As they start voting, Morgan bursts into the room screaming excitedly.

Morgan reveals that the reason he has been missing so much has been because he was working on getting the LRR crew registered for a metric fuckton of paid appearances around the continent. A bit confused by Morgan's sudden ambition, the crew nonetheless agree since the amount of money collected could easily finance LRR for three years. However, in the shadows watches a dark gaze, an evil corporation who has plans of its own for the crew.

---

Sprites:

(Graham, Morgan, Jer, James, Tim, Paul, Matt, Kathleen, Bill)

What's Morgan's thrusting level at? Does he need to grind more?

It's a LRRPG. The Runners are essentially mana.

Graham
Pros:
Generates Runners the fastest.
Starts with the ability to summon a crew member.

Cons:
-25% cash from enemies.
Takes +5% damage.

Paul
Pros:
Can create items.
Has better disposition with others.

Cons:
Poor in battles.
More prone to blind attacks.

Jer
Pros:
Best speed.
Can ninja his way behind enemies.

Cons:
Occasionally has his hits equal 1 at random.
Weak against Larpers.

Matt
Pros:
Nerd rage attack.
Can use car to quick travel.

Cons:
Slowest fighter.
If iPhone rings during battle, attacks are cancelled.

Kathleen
Pros:
Occasionally gets extra cash.
Unique power summons the ABPKS.

Cons:
Bears can cause her to freeze up during battle.
Sometimes talking to men yields no info since they're preoccupied.

Bill
Pros:
Can eat anything to regain health.
Strongest fighter.

Cons:
Generates Runners slowest. (Due to shaming them in DotA/HoN)
Cannot block. (Too much area to hit.)

Morgan
Pros:
Any large meal becomes manlier when he holds it. (Heals x1.5.)
Women have better disposition with him.

Cons:
-25% EXP from enemies.
Small meals are less manly. (Heals x0.5.)

Alright, now that screenshot was simply concept. I'm going to be reworking the graphics and layout quite a bit as I work on this. But, I've come up with the opening plot:

It's been a month since Geoff was defeated and realized the error of his ways. During this time, Morgan returned but he has been disappearing a lot. While the crew is attempting to shoot a video in which Morgan plays a key role, no one can find him. This is the last straw.

Yeah, I plan to do it all in Flash.

I've started work on the sprites. Here is the beginning of Bill:

Image

Yay, managed to find the transcript of a LRRcast with the heights. Putting it here so I don't lose it. I'm doing the sprites as 1 pixel per inch (plus hair if it is taller).

Bill: 6' 10"
Graham: 6' 4"
Morgan: 6' 3"
Jer: 6' 0" - (Possibly 6' 1" as he is taller than James in CH 11)
James: 6' 0"
Paul: 5' 11"
Matt: 5' 9"
Kathleen: 5' 7"? (Based on height compared to Matt, unless Matt wears high heels.)

Do you need any help? I don't have terribly much time in a week but I'm a not-terribly-incompetent C/C++ coder.

I should be doing pretty well on my own. Right now I'm focusing on the graphics because usually when I start a game, I end up giving up when I don't have the graphics and don't feel like making them.

Here's Graham's start, wearing a Runners shirt:

But if anyone has suggestions, jokes for it, side quest ideas, feel free to post them here.

The only suggestion I have so far is to make the shoulders slightly less broad.

Bill and Graham have wide shoulders, so their sprites do too.

Here's Morgan:
Image

(Though, I'll admit Graham does look a little too buff in sprite form, might drop them a bit.)

Edit:
Wimpifyed Graham to make his shoulders less broad.

Broad shoulders translate to looking buff in sprites unless you tub them out a bit too. Bill's shoulder broadness makes him look less tall than he should look.

You're too slow, Tom.

But Bill's sprite will look much taller once Matt is up there. And ingame, Bill's sprite will be compared to items in the world, so you'll see him as taller. It's a perspective thing.
