My life REALLY sucks right now.
I could barely believe it when I had to send off my new PS3 off for repairs a mere 4 months after getting the thing, but now my fucking Xbox 360 is bupkis.
My PS3 suffers from a Blu-Ray drive problem that turns every PS3 title into an everloading and non-responsive pile of frustration.
And just today my 360 got its first serious problem. I was playing Fallout 3 when all of a sudden the screen runs awash with a blindingly green hue. I think to myself "It probably just needs a restart.". I restart it and now the screen is black, and a little notice from my HDTV appears that says "unsupported mode". I tried everything to get this to work, from using a different set of component cables, to even holding RT and Y to reset the video to factory defaults, and nothing worked.
I don't know what to do.
I had no warranty on my PS3, and it's costing me $150 to get it fixed, but I can't afford to lay down another god-damned $150 to fix my 360.

If you're playing in 1080i, switch to 1080p. If you're playing in 1080p, switch it to 1080i.
My TV is 1080p, but will only accept my 360 as 1080i.

How do I switch video settings if I can't see the menu?
UPDATE : Now my HDTV says "No Signal" even though it's hooked up correctly, and the video settings are (or at least should be) on factory default.

If it happened all of sudden as you said, I doubt Arius' solution is even applicable.

I guess I should call customer service tomorrow. (Even I'm supposed to study for my Algebra final.)

Wow, that DOES suck. I knew that 360s were plagued with issues, but I didn't think about PS3s getting screwed up. I wish the best for you and your Xbox.

Logic:
PS3s are a product of Microsoft
Microsoft is also the producer of Windows operating systems

Errors. Errors and games.
Who told them that combining those two was a good idea?!

Huh? Tell me if Im being stupid here but I thought PS3's were a product of Sony? And the 360 was produced by Microsoft.
Nothing to see here.

You know that's what I thought. What with the PS1 and PS2 being Sony. I guess I must have missed something.
Also, Red Ring is a hardware problem, which has no relation to how their biggest software product performs.

Re: My life REALLY sucks right now.
Red ring is a hardware problem that can be entirely blamed on Europe. It's an issue because of the RoHS-compliant solder they used, which has a low enough melting point that the pads of the GPU can come unsoldered.

I didn't know that! Neat.
I guess my question now is, why haven't they fixed it?
If they have fixed it, why am I so out of touch?

I've decided that instead of spending $150 to repair my 360, I'll just get one of the newest models since they don't have as many problems. I'll only have to spend 50 more for one.
Will I be able to simply attach the HDD of my old 360 to this new one and have everything working? Or do I need some kind of cable or procedure?

As far as I know, you should just be able to put in your hard drive, and it will work fine. In my understanding, it really just functions like a massive memory stick, but you can put more than saves on it.

you might have to re-download anything you got off live, as there might be a problem with the new serial number not matching the one when it was originally downloaded. At least, that's what the note they sent with my replacement console said.
