Mass Effect 2

Postby HungryHungryHobo » 19 Dec 2009, 12:03

So Mass Effect 2 seems to be coming out soon Game Informer was saying sometime in January. Who here is going to buy it, rent it, or skip it? Also If you are going buy it are you going to pre-order it?

January 29th here in the UK, I am seriously pumped, ever since I finished the first game I have been waiting anxiously for this game, I loved the first one.

I actually enjoyed the space exploration and reading the "flavour" text about the planets more so than the game itself.

Is it just me or is the improved cover art on the collectors edition enough to make you actually get it? I think it was what made me go over the edge and say yes. If that is so, is the generic cover art on Mass Effect 2 a ploy to sell more Collectors editions?

I have never bought a collectors or limited edition of a game, yet, for Mass Effect 2, I'm not sure I'll be able to skip it :S

Has anyone heard the rumor that they're going to make some small references to Dragon Age in Mass Effect?

considering dragon age comes with blood dragon armor dlc for mass effect 2, that's a safe bet.

I'm looking forward to the combat being improved quite a bit.
The first was functional, but felt really slow and muggy.

not sure what you mean by references, but i hear there will be an approval system for team mates. also, like Matt said, Blood Dragon Armour. WHICH WILL BE AWESOME! :D

my beef was the squad AI: either they'd run into your line of fire or try to shoot right through you. there was no friendly fire (at least up to Hardcore, not sure about Insanity) but it was still annoying.

but what i really don't like about the new combat system is the veiny bloodshot eye overlay for when you take damage. that could get really annoying.

I'm really looking forward to it coming out, it seems to me that they're shifting a bit away from the space opera bit and more towards cyberpunk. In any case, I've never played a Bioware game I didn't like, and this likely won't be the exception to that.

I got my bro Mass Effect (Shh! don't tell him, he hasn't gotten it yet!) for Christmas. We're roomies now, so I'll play that prior to the sequel. I'm hearing good things, though.

Out of intrest, what classes did eveone get on with the most.

I was very fond of the infiltrator myself, but then, I'm a sniping freak.

Vanguard for me: it took a while to level up enough to get the class to work, but when it worked the combination of the shotgun and the biotic powers was brilliant to use.

Y'know I could get passed the short comings of the 1st one (the combat, vechile controls), but there was a section where the textures wouldn't load making everything was all black and nearly impossible ot navigate so I had to stop playing.
While the second looks interesting I think I'd much rather they just make a Mass Effect TV series instead. The story seems great, but the gameplay felt more like a hassle. I might think about getting the second if I ever retry the 1st, but I would definitely watch a show based off it.

Oh and you can just call me Dave.
No need for the whole screen name.

this. so glad they are making shotguns more powerful, as well.

i also have end game save files for Soldier and Engineer, though i will also probably have to try out Infiltrator.

goddammit, i just realized i may never leave the basement when this comes out. :?

I ended up only finishing the game with a vanguard even though after playing through it half way with a soldier.
I kinda regret having sold it before completing it again a mistake i wouldn't have made if I knew the connection between one and two is as extensive as they are making it out to be.

Just be warned that for the first 10-15 levels you're playing as either a biotic with fewer skills, or a very weak shotgun soldier (with light armour for a while...). Once you get somewhere though, it's brilliant.

Once I learn how to not walk in circles with my gun pointed into the air it will be brilliant.
