No, even if you're running Linux you should have it. Find a Windows computer, install Steam, then press the shiny "install Portal" button, then stop it. Congratulations, Portal should now be tied to your Steam account. You can access it anywhere in the world.

Also, who doesn't have Portal at this point?

I'm glad I didn't buy this. I was really considering it to see what all the fuss was about. Spent an hour or two there. It took quite a turn and ever since then, I'm really enjoying it.

Worth every penny I paid for it. :D

I highly recommend the Portal TFV Mappack for anyone who is looking for more portal goodness. Its a bundle of maps based on the fan made game "Portal: The Flash version" and had a number of its puzzles included as extra content when Valve brought Portal to XBLA as Portal: Still Alive, to sort of complete the chain of fan-osity.
Plus its only 40mb so, you know.. Worth a download even just to try?

Another map pack, though not one I personally reccomend, is Portal Prelude. I felt the puzzles in prelude sort of missed the point of portal in many ways. It was always very easy for me to determine what the map required me to do to complete it, the problems were almost always more about perfecting the execution. I imagine that if you like say, CS/Team Fortress jump maps, this could actually be really fun, but it just rubbed me the wrong way.

Oh, also the radio puzzles included in one of the more recent portal updates are pretty fun too. Pretty simple concept, find radios while going through the normal story mode and try to find the right spot in the area to receive a transmission. Fun for people that like an extra hint of exploration in their games.

Oh. um.. I guess I should note that I have no clue if either of the map packs even work on the mac version of portal, TFV Mapppack should just be a matter of finding the right place to extract the maps but don't hold me to that :(
and now; back to me.

Um... okay, but you've got to promise not to laugh.

No really, don't. It's not funny!

You won't, will you? You'd better not!

Ihaven'tgotPortalyetbecause... because...

....because I already have HL2 and Episode 1, so instead of buying the Orange Box I decided to, um, wait for Episode 3 to come out to buy whatever updated version will presumably become available.

No fair! You said you wouldn't laugh!

So why haven't you got your free copy?

@ matt just wait a day or so the internet went apeshit when this got announced so the steam servers are getting stupid amounts of new connections that's probably why valve have given so much time.

valve is awesome!

i was just looking over their website and i have noticed that my old half life games can be used with steam = just put in the cd keys and i can use them to download the latest copies.

valve ftw!

Valve's DRM solution is 100% the best way to tackle the problem. I haven't even thought about pirating a game since HL2 came out.

On Topic: Even if you don't have the hardware to run Portal right now, you should still grab it now while it's free. That way you'll always have access to it in future.

I already have Portal, but I told a friend of mine and he immediately started downloading it.

This is a great move by Valve, an excellent olive branch for Mac users who might not use their computers for gaming.

You might want to look into PlayOnLinux.
It has helped me run a few games on Linux.

I've run several games without it using just WINE though.
Just use a .exe install of Steam (not the .msi file you download now) install a few fonts then download the game.
