Indeed, that's part of the reason why I moved out of the one I started in.

The area directly east of spawn is not really ideal as the northeastern corner is right on top of my house. Which I just finished. If it is the only plausible site I could relocate but I'd rather not.

I'd say the best one I see here is the North-South directed one to the southwest of spawn. But I see that that is where ecocd wants to build his underwater dome. Wat about the area directly west of the arcology, spanning the 2 bodies of water there, The land in between doesn't seem too high or very big, so we'd get it dug out in no time. I don't have my drawing tools right now, so I'll make a map of what I mean tomorrow.

Slight warning, the lake next to the arcology is really deep.

Also: The two biome rings at the arcology site are both 1 block too far West and need to be shifted 1 block East such that the walkway ring inbetween them is 1-4-10-4-1 rather than the current 2-4-10-4. (If you're not using the sun for whatever reason, facing the sun sphere from between them, Left is West, Right is East).

I'd do this myself but the realisation has somewhat shellshocked me and to boot Vikkie is arriving in Middlesbrough for the week today, so I'll be behaving as a good boyfriend for the time being, and not playing excessive periods of time on Minecraft :P

Just and update: Fugi has updated the original posts with exchange rates you can use to get wool and netherblocks from admins. The raised funds will go towards community/mega-projects such as the Arcology and the Capital.

New to multiplayer MC, have some pretty good things going on in SP. Can someone give a brief rundown on whats different (MP vs SP wise) also, what is this 'Arcology' everyone is talking about, sounds interesting.

Thanks

If you've been playing around quite a bit in single player, you won't find a lot of differences, but they're definitely important ones.

First and foremost, there's "no health." That means, you can't get hurt. Stand in lava, run out of air, fall from 20 blocks - none of it matters.

EDIT: Leaves don't disappear on their own! If you cut a tree down, please cut all of the leaves out. It's a pain, but everyone is in the same boat.

The tool "repair" bug exists in multiplayer. This means if you throw away your tool ("Q" button on default controls) and pick it back up, it will have restored itself to full durability. This is why you see everyone running around with diamond tools. You only have to find the diamond once.

Right now our server is set not to spawn baddies anywhere - at night, in the dark, monster generators in dungeons. For some reason sheep and cows do not spawn either. As far as I know, the pigs and chickens can only be killed by fire/lava.

Portals to Hell don't work in multiplayer.

There are surely some others I've forgotten, but those are the biggies. Just like in a single-player game, the map only generates new area if you travel past a point where no one has gone before. We're trying to keep the map size where it is right now, for the moment. You can find a copy of the current map here. Look for the latest timestamp. Try to stay within those borders - it's pretty big as is.

Spawn (where you first start) is just down and to the right of the substnaital orange ball on the map in the center of the map. Use that to keep your bearings. The admin command "/compass" tells you which cardinal direction you're facing. That means if you open chat and type "/compass" (no double quotes) you'll get the direction pop up in the chat window.

On our server, we're a pretty free community. There aren't any building regulations, no bucket restrictions, etc but that's because we all respect each other and each other's projects. When you sign into the server for the first time, take time to wander around and visit a few places. Feel free to introduce yourself in chat and watch any conversations scroll by for a while to get a feel for the chat atmosphere.

Once you've explored a bit, feel free to start your own build. Just make sure you scout around the area thoroughly before you build. If you build a house and someone is already building a castle that will encompass the area, you'll be asked to remove your house. If it's an epic project, you'll want to post in the thread here to let everyone know.

The arcology is centered at that giant lava ball known as The Sunsphere. Our own Lyinginbedmon is constructing 3 very large spheres which will house artificially created biomes. I believe the current build is the largest planned build on the server, but there's a design for a truly epic 100x300 meter (1 meter = 1 block) Gothic cathedral capital building.

We're all pretty friendly so don't hesitate to ask around if you need help.

I checked out a few of the capitol building placements that MG suggested and I'm a fan of one of the lake ones. I've included a map excerpt here and teleport signature.

I haven't had a chance to talk to Fugi yet, but in light of recent orders, I've decided to half the value of Cobble, Dirt, and Gravel. So the exchange is now 128 cobble/Dirt/gravel, 32 Sand/Stone, 8 Iron, 2 Gold, .5 diamond = 16 wool, 8 Slowstone, 4 Netherstone, 1 Lightstone.

If the price doesn't go up that much once I get to talk to Fugi, I will reimburse anyone who has already payed.

I wish I had known about this last night. Now I can actually get back to civilization.

On a related note, where are the main mines? I feel like I just want to slave in one of those for a while and not risk starting up some structures where someone might have a claim.

Okay so apparently stuff has been going down and nobody saw fit to let me know.

I'm only going to say this once, If you suspect somebody stole or griefed you, PM me immediately with a range of times and the location. With that information I can get a list of anybody who was there, and from there determine who did it.

Additionally, I am looking into this plugin to help secure chests.

EDIT: I just implemented the plugin above. Read that thread for details.

type /spawn turn around and follow the ladder going down from the sky there's a mine i dug that anyone's free to use.

note this does come close to DC's tree farm, so it is wise to mine in the opposite direction to the torches

Thanks everyone. I know I should know this stuff already, but thanks for telling me anyway.

In any case, I think I've got a decent setup and an open area of land, so for the time being I'm good to go (until I decide to venture back into the big city... which probably won't be long.)

I hoped on today and things are looking pretty neat. I think a central city area is a good idea!

I'll be making this my permanent minecraft home. Escapist is great and all but It's almost to big.

Hey, someone has started building on the area I've been leveling.

This area is not available.

This area is going to be a small city.

If this is your project, please pick up your stuff and move it somewhere else.
