Response 503, followed by a long fucking string of numbers after it showed something related to the minecraft.net login weblink or something.

Is this happening to others or just me?

Minecraft.net appears to be down at the moment, though the login server isn't. My best guess is that connections to servers have to be routed through a central mincraft.net server. When that's down, anyone attempting to connect to a minecraft server gets 503 errors, end of stream errors, and a few others. Should be back up soon.

Yeah, same problem here. GAHHHH, This sucks.

Yep same thing with me last night, that is why I dissappeared and didn't come back. I was placing paintings and lost connection while was trying to take one down I didn't want. So there is a picture in my house that isn't meant to be there.

Yup same here. I think the main Minecraft server is down that handles the re-direct. Also the pigmap hasn't updated in AGES (a day or two)

Protip: I've discovered that searching Twitter for "minecraft.net" shows you pretty quickly if it's down for everyone.

It doesn't really lie. The page exists and responds. It just shows a blank white page. It probably can't actually tell if the authentication servers are up. It just looks at whether the Minecraft.net site loads.

Minecraft.net gives a 503. A response of "Hi, I see you but my server is hosed" probably shouldn't be counted as a "up" response. :)

Possibly updated version: http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/http://minecraft.net:25565/

Have to wait for the server to go back up to fully test it, though.

Well, notch is off to GDC.

Sounds like it may be a while before it's actually back up.

Oh, apparently Jakob and the others are getting on top of fixing things as of nine minutes ago.

*crosses fingers he can actually get on 'tonight' before another long work day tomorrow*

I would think... that maybe.. just maybe.. if you are at a Game Developers Conference you would just possibly want to make sure your game stays up and is in working condition. Maybe.

Hello, I've been playing Minecraft for a while now but didn't really feel the need to get into the mulitplayer side of it until recently, that is until it got to that boring bit. I've been refered to this site by a coworker and I checked out the creative server and it seems really quite neat. Anyways, I was hoping that I could have building privileges for the creative server. I don't have anything in mind to build at the moment really, and I would of course ask before I built anything. Sorry if this is the wrong thread to ask for building privileges but I was unable to locate one that was more obvious. My minecraft name is MinChang02. Thanks again for the read through of this rather long message.

Wow, I like that the Mojang guys were fixing minecraft.net while in flight. It might be the future.

I don't know, having a million plus people playing your game BEFORE it's released is a little more impressive then a relatively minor glitch.

And according to Notch's twitter, it didn't crash until after they left the office, which is why it took so long to fix. They didn't have stable enough internet to test and fix things until they got on the interior US flight.

I'm extending my rail line out to the skybridge station. This means I'm going to have to go underground near the skybridge. Is there anything underground in that area? My proposed path (at y=53, currently) is shown in yellow:

They need more commitment to uptime. My previous employer used to make us book separate flights to conferences so that if airlines stuffed things up at least one of us would get there.

Seriously, though, the amount of outage the auth server has is pretty bad. It's not that hard to keep a simple service like that up.

On the contrary, that server receives millions of requests every hour, and it needs to resolve each and every one of them in a timely fashion. No wonder the thing's so hard-knocked.
