Made a backup just after I took it down, and it works fine from what I see.

I actually never work on the live data. I make a backup and make modifications of that. It's only if everything works to my liking after the modification that I replace the live data with the modified backup. If things screw up, I just make another backup of the live data.

I am semi-available for any help as needed. I ran a server for... two or three years. I really don't remember, time is so weird.

A lot has changed in the world of minecraft servers over the past year. I haven't kept completely up to date, but I'm sure most of the major stuff has been ported where it needs to be.

Since things will still be mostly vanilla, updates won't be that bad. Just stay on the old version for a few days until everything is updated. Or again, use technic and the user never has to worry about what version of whatever they're running

Good news and bad news.

Good news: I've fixed the griefing and am just about ready to turn the server back on. I just need to do one more thing.

Bad news: My MineCraft crashes every time it boots up, so I'm not able to get the last thing done until that's solved.

Edit: Haven't completely solved it, but got what I wanted done, so the server's up again.

Also, Xaphod: Your Nether train is now on the other side of your new base, connecting to muihtils.

Update: The server now times you out if you're idle for 10 minutes or more.

Also, NoobLord: don't even joke about what you said, or you'll find yourself logging on in jail.

Installed new Weather Control Villager and leveled him up for trading.

Good news to travelers: He sells saddles.
He also sells steak, leather armor, leather helmet, and leather boots.
He buys raw beef, raw pork, and coal.

That Weather Control Villager deserves a promotion, he's a devoted and capable employee.

Only while they're children, unless you have access to the NBT data or are /summoning them of course.

You can, it just requires a second person to be in the trade dialogue while you do it.

Rail update: pivoteer and Captain_Makr are now on the overworld rail line, connected into Kool's Southern place.

Next on the plan: Connecting dewknight to piv's and Makr's place.

I don't know if anyone would want to do this, but there's a new way to directly donate money to the server now: https://www.gandi.net/credit/buy?handle=MM7741-GANDI

It would probably be easier for most people who'd like to support the server running to just send me money via PayPal, since this other option requires you to create an account. However, if anyone wanted to support the server this way instead, it is an option to consider. :)

Costs:

150,000 credits = $16.58, £11.48, or €12.75
1,000,000 credits = $104.00, £72.00, or €80.00
2,000,000 credits = $182.00, £126.00, or €140.00

For those curious about how much each credit pack will last the server (based on current usage):

150,000 credits = 441 hours = 18 days, 9 hours = about 2/3 of a month
1,000,000 credits = 2941 hours = 122 days, 13 hours = just over 4 months
2,000,000 credits = 5882 hours = 245 days, 2 hours = just over 8 months

Memo, PM me your Paypal details. Now that I've got a research bursary, feel I can spare a little to keep the server afloat... :)

2 things.

First: new rail line between jeremy2d and parker. :)

Second: new rule for the server. It's not something difficult, and most have already done it on their own.

The rule is now: if your building or project is not labeled, it has the possibility of being demolished in favor of new development. If I don't know who to contact and the space is needed for renovations, it's coming down.

Just a simple sign like "Memo's House" or whatever. Something that indicates who built it, since it's becoming difficult to keep everything together in my head anymore.

(Anything I do know that isn't labeled will be labeled by me.)

Sounds reasonable. I do have a sign at both main entrances to Templemir, though it occurs to me that there's a third entrance at the Foundry station that could use more of a welcome sign...

I'm sure Memo will get right on demolishing Templemir if you don't get that labelled ASAP.

I'm sure for larger projects that as long as it is labeled somewhere that a label would be obvious, the whole project is assumed to be that. My compound doesn't have a label at every entrance, but the obvious main building is labeled.

One: You're going a bit overboard. I meant it less like "The minute I find something unlabeled, it's coming down." It's more like, "If the land is needed for some reason (unlikely), and after I've made diligent effort to contact the owner, I still can't contact them, it's possible that it could come down.

Two: You don't need every building labeled, if they're all close enough together. (Just for a judgment call, I'll say within normal render distance of the previous building.)

I think the server might be using some of its resources to plot the destruction of mankind, because it is acting weird.

Lagging some, not seeing any mobs besides a couple of animals. Squid even aren't spawning at their ridiculous rate like normal. Actually, we just had one spider, but that's it.

Also, I don't know if you can adjust mob spawning in vanilla, but that's another plus for server mods. Cutting back on the number of squid that spawn would help server resources while still providing enough for use.

Well, I have control over spawning, but it's just on and off. It's not in rates like that.

I can reboot the server, if that helps.

And I'm liking the "render distance" amount more and more, so the more official rule regarding project sizes is that if you're standing in the middle of your project and you can see the whole thing (potentially, disregarding walls blocking view and such), it's fine. If you can't, it's a larger project that you should probably make me aware of. (True, this embraces tall, skinny towers, and discourages wide, flat projects, but we're dealing with MineCraft here. We have a world the size of Saturn to work with. I just don't want border disputes with other players if your project expands very wide. I can deal with wide projects just fine as long as they don't inhibit the projects of others.)

Regarding the question about quartz, it was added in 1.5. That unfortunately means that all of the Nether area that was explored in 1.3 and 1.4 (which was a significant amount) will not have natural quartz in it. If that upsets you, blame the pioneers who initially explored the Nether (me and King Kool, mainly, I think).
