Seems he got all pissy and upset about how memo responded to him in this thread and up and left. Massive overreaction.

Memo, if you need help demolishing all of Zaphod's crap, I'd be happy to pitch in.

Gentlemen, please lets not start calling each other games or start a fight over minecraft!

I call on everyone to just carry on as normal and let this thing be settled between those involved: Memo and Zaphod.

Prospero: What part of "You do build well" and "I like your sense of design" did you not understand? If we were to destroy what Zaphod built, there goes 2/3 of Spawn City.

Zaphod is being a prick, who doesn't like finishing what he starts, but we will not be destroying his buildings. Anyone who griefs his stuff will be subject to immediate banning. If it happens and I cannot determine the culprit, I'll assume it's Prospero anyway and ban him.

Ok, but for real, what happened to all the mobs?
I don't mind the fact that it rains now (because for whatever reason, it does), but not being able to kill anything besides the zombies in KingKool's EXP. Grinder is really kind of annoying. I built a treehouse above my cavern especially FOR sniping mobs and I've never been able to use it! :P

I've also seen a lack of mobs at times. Sometimes they're there like normal, sometimes I don't see a single one in a play session. I haven't really been able to track it down to anything that I've noticed.

sidenote, I will be available monday morning and monday evening memo if you have any time. Tuesday is probably open as well.

Well, from what I know, mobs have a limit per area. If there's more than that limit, they spawn much less. Maybe your sheep and chickens are putting it over the limit?

Sounds good. What time zone are we talking about for "morning" and "evening" though?

MST

Yeah there is a limit per chunk and depending on the setup there can be an overall limit on the server, but I think that's usually a plugin thing on bukkit servers. When I notice them missing it is generally down in my mines, which should be far away enough from my farm. But I'll experiment with killing some stuff to troubleshoot. No big deal, as it's nice not seeing 5,000 creepers when mining.

I went through my abandoned mineshaft (which by the way is about three tiimes as huge as I ever thought it could be) this afternoon, and I saw one spider. One. Ever. It wasn't even a cave spider. No zombies, no creepers, no Enders, just... just a huge mineshaft and a bucketload of torches. I couldn't have felt more out of danger if I'd been standing in my bedroom with the hatch shut.
But I'll try killing off some sheep and see what happens.

Okay...

1) the server was working fine when I came on to cull my livestock, and IIRC you were on at first...

2) I glanced at this post before doing that,

3) it is currently 4:24pm where I am, yet the post above me is reported as being posted "16 Dec 2013 16:38"? :?

ANYWAY, as I mentioned, the Hosttower herd has been pared back to minimum levels - hope this helps!

Server was down temporarily while stuff was being configurated and tested. It was back up around 2PM EST (I think).

Yeah, sorry about that. I didn't realize it lasted 2 hours of outage.

His unfinished stuff is most of his stuff, and it's extensive. However, it's "unfinished" in the same way that Templemir is "unfinished." It's pretty good and functional on its own, but the full scope was never finished.

Towers 1 and 2 are finished to the point of needing 3 and 4 to progress much farther, and towers 3 and 4 are underway.

Also, Memo, Silk Touch in the market is probably the best thing ever. Makes stone so much less of a chore to gather.

For me, most likely the 30th/31st Jan, as I have my Literature review and conference submission for Columbia, SC next year due by the 15th, and my research plan review on 29th.

Hope I get the conference attendence fund, would be neat to go leave the European continent for the first time...

Unless the map get's reset or corrupted at some point, it will get finished, it just requires an amount of free time and commitment I can't allocate right now.

Who'd have though a doctorate would require so much work?

Always interesting to see people with reasons to come to SC... Never seems like anything happens here.

Well, you guys did start the whole secession thing, but that was a while ago.

For more info, look up Fields of Conflict 2014. I think it's going to be based at the Meriott(sp?) Hotel.

South Carolina is VERY proud of their part in the Civil War... I remember a school field trip in Elementary School where we had to find the golden stars that mark where our capital building took cannon-fire when Sherman came blazing (lolololol) through.

Yeah, I can see why that would be held here (I notice it's actually pretty well traveled, which is neat), We've got battlefields littered all about the place. Revolutionary and Civil both. Also, I like how the conference is being held in the Midlands, with pre and post excursions to the Coast and the Upstate, respectively.

Anyways, good luck with your paper!

Memo, I'm almost certain that there is something wrong with spawning on the server, i.e. that with the exception of actual mob spawners like the ones you find in abandoned mineshafts, it just isn't happening the way it should. I haven't seen a naturally spawned mob that wasn't a spider since I started playing again at the end of my uni semester.
(I took the liberty of Googling the problem, and I received dubiously reliable information that this problem could be solved by changing the server mode to Peaceful, then back to Survival again. Or something like that.)
