If you can figure out how to deal with doubling the previous year's userbase within 2 weeks without the server breaking again, I'm glad to hear it. :)

Everyone is only aloud to break half the bricks they were planning on, and they can only build half of their structures. Half a boat, half a castle.

And I mean, they must look as though they were all cut exactly in half by some laser weapon that disintegrated the second half after the complete structure was built.

As part of the upgrades I've been working on, I just finished an official economy, so the Market no longer runs directly on XP. Prices are roughly the same as they were previously, though.

What's the economy run on, then, Memo? Barter?

It uses a scoreboard-based system. You can currently exchange levels for money, and then use the money to buy stuff. You can also exchange money with other players.
I have plans to revamp the Cash4Trash system to allow you to sell items back for money, especially since they don't seem interested in fixing the pressure plate bug any time soon.

So it's still tied to levels, but it's no longer direct, and it's easier to manipulate, as I can trigger other events to give money.
For example, if we have a PvP arena, or a Spleef arena, or an obstacle course race, or anything like that, the winner can be directly paid in money.

Pity. I guess I'll never get to say "I've got wood for sheep" outside a game of Catan.

Well, you could trade someone wood for sheep, if you wanted... :D

Your cute little tree farm has wrecked the wood-for-sheep economy, you commie.

Blame Xaphod for the tree farm.

Perhaps a New Zealand style sheep farming scheme would help restore the banalnce in this particular trading interaction? Or we could burn down all the major forests to re-value the leaf, er, sorry, the log.

The current conversation just brings a thought that with a lot of the new command block features, it should be possible to create a pretty passable map that simulates Settlers of Catan.

Supply always far exceeds demand, though I suspect people would be willing to pay to not have to gather excessive quantities of it for themselves. Same's probably true of most basic materials, logs especially.

When I did the Cathedral on the original server, I just set up a wall of chests for people to dump their excess cobble. I think there was at least 3+ double chests full at the end of it (well, "end"...there was always something more I wanted to do).

When I last played Minecraft, my mining exploits left me with more than a full chestful of the stuff. So I started building a giant pyramid in the middle of the desert to a) dump it all and b) see how big it got. Unfortunately the server shut down somewhere around 15 blocks, but I reckon if I'd played a couple of months longer it would have hit 30 at least

Yeah, I always find myself using whatever cobble I get. The addition of Silk Touch to the market sped up the whole Stone mining process considerably, however.

I currently have about 4 double chests full of cobble. I highly doubt its ever going to be a problem for me.

Cobble? I don't need no steenking cobble. I'm making my vault mostly out of stone bricks.

There's a joke on the current Chaosville server that vanilla stone is rarer than diamond because it gets vastly replaced by blocks from Underground Biomes.

Well it doesn't look like I'll be on the server or able to help as much as I hoped. The bone marrow transplant is going ahead full steam and I'm having tests and scans done every other day, and trying to get all my affairs in order the other days.

Really sorry that I can't help, at least for now. I go in on Feb 12th, and hopefully will be done with the first round one month after that.

I'm really bummed that I wasn't able to help move things over to bukkit, but it's run for so long without it so It's not as bad as I might think. I'm just so used to when I was a server owner. Anything minecraft basically meant I was playing around in bukkit. Hell, I didn't even play minecraft for a whole year before I stepped down from the server. It was all admin stuff and real life stuff.

Well, that's just a random rant. But there you go. See you guys on the other side, whichever side that happens to be.
