LRR Minecraft Server

Postby Fugiman » 06 Nov 2010, 00:31

Warning: This server is not owned, operated, or endorsed by the LoadingReadyRun Crew. It is operated by and for the community, and has no direct relation to LoadingReadyRun.

After a year of experience, we can finally run everything through one map. The only IP you need now is as follows:

LRRCraft: lrrcraft.com (64.64.17.170)

How's it work?
The server is broken into "creative" and "survival" zones. Spawn and a few other select areas are creative, meaning mobs can't enter or do damage in those areas. Survival works as a normal survival map - creepers everywhere to blow up your buildings.

Rules & Requests (Can't believe I forgot this...)
  • Don't be a dick
  • Don't be a dick
  • Listen to Admins & Moderators
  • Don't be a dick
  • If you start building something, leave a sign with your name so you can be contacted if necessary.
  • Don't be a dumb-ass

The server is currently running:
A whole bunch of stuff that is constantly changing.

Speaking of which, the server is currently scheduled to back up pretty often, update the dynmap as changes occur, as well as restart every day (clears memory leaks). The map can be found at http://lrrcraft.com:8123/.

In terms of moderation, we have two ranks. Both Moderators and Admins can teleport to you, summon you, mute, kick, ban and ip-ban, and unban. They can also stop the server, define cuboids, see your inventory, see GriefAlerts, set the spawn location, warp, and add players to the whitelist and reserve list. They ALSO ignore any chest protections or cuboid protections, and don't trigger GriefAlerts. FINALLY, Admins also have access to the physical server files itself.
Most of the powers above are wrong, but they are still in flux, so I can't update it now.

The moderation team is:
Fugiman - Root
MasterGunner - Admin
Mr Ike - Admin
Gaspode The Dog - Admin
Lying In Bedmon - Admin
Chad Stumph - Admin
Ed - Mod
Vanguard - Mod
zFubarz - Mod
Empath - Mod
Ecocd - Mod
XelaReko - Mod

Economy: We have a currency so you can trade items or whatever. I don't actually know how this all works, so just ask other people I guess?

Disabled Stuff:
I don't even know anymore. I don't think we restrict anything, we just stop fires from spreading and ban you if you're a dick.

Some final notes: The server currently has a ?? player cap. If we ever need it higher, it will be increased. Also, the server costs $89/month. I am totally NOT fine for cash, but in case you are so inclined it is possible to donate. Leftover donations from when this crashes and burns will go to Desert Bus (or my wallet).

PS: If you ever get banned (or already are), send me a PM. Its likely that you can get unbanned if you just talk to me. If I don't hear from you, the ban won't go away though.

I had the benefit of running a vanilla server for myself and gunner back in the day, as well as paying attention to how other servers are run and what is out there.

Observing others is rather helpful :P

My compliments to the chef. Fugi, this is awesome and you're awesome. This community is awesome. Alex and Graham will surely be as impressed as everyone. Like children, we all yearn for official LRR approval. The transparency with which you're running it is also very much appreciated.

*hugs Fugi*

It's beautiful.

As others have said, you're an excellent administrator, both for the reasons you gave, and because of your ingrained pessimism that leaves you already prepared for mishaps. :)

Great job, man; I'm proud to lend a hand with the day-to-day operation.

You know, I've been hearing little snippets about minecraft for a long while, and I've been mostly just felt kind of 'meh' about it and saying 'I'll check it out later...'

Well I finally did, and it looks amazing. I think I'm going to get it next payday and then I shall be in your base... doing stuff... you know, because it looks fun...

WOW. The fortress building site will be moved towards the less mountainous areas. I guess seeing it from the barbarian village would be a sweet idea somehow?

can I open something for discussion tool runes.

Specificity the leaf blower this rune allows you to clear leaves with an enchanted axe would be incredibly useful.

Any thoughts or objections?

I'm in favor of this, too, actually :D. I'd, personally, also like a time-of-day rune (see Chrono Trigger in the runecraft thread.)

Edit:

I'd also *love* hidden door runes :D.

Proposed currency courses:

2 Iron = 1 Slow Sand
3 Iron = 1 Netherstone
4 Iron = 1 Gold = 1 Lightstone
12 Iron = 3 Gold = 1 Diamond

Should currency even be implemented? This isn't really an RP server of any description.

At best I think we should just have "established trade conventions" more than actual currency. Trade here being defined as loosely-upheld guidelines for players to trade materials and currency being more rigid and global.

I agree with lying, if you want to trade X for Y with somebody who wants to trade then you should be able to o that without having to pay them.

also is there a map that shows the spawn point?

Indeed. however, admins are the only sources for hell blocks and snce technically they don't need anything there should be an exchange course... maybe 2/3/4 Iron for 1/0.5/0.25 stacks of slowsand/netherstone/lightstone?

I hopped on for a few minutes to find the winter coast and place a sign. Here is a map with the area I'd like to build the Viking Village in. This isn't a residential town, just a historical recreation, so don't worry about it turning into another Beacon.

I've decided to go with a space I actually have an idea for, and will be building on that large lake between spawn and Chad's village.

I also think either the 'Freezer' or 'Ice Pick' + 'Snow Shovel' runes should be added. Pretty much every other biome can be simulated/moved with enough time, and often snow biomes aren't quite want you want, so the ability to modify them would be helpful.

Arcology News

The base ring of Biome 3 is currently nearly 75% complete, and at best is about a dozen blocks away from Duo's house. However, the exterior ring is further from the sunsphere and larger, so I'm still in the way of thinking it's a good idea to move it soon.

Additionally, half the server population had to band together to undo work done by Highlander_LRR in the course of building an underwater city beneath the arcology, which consisted of constructing a glass pyramid under the sun sphere and flooding most of the undersection. This was accidental, so he's not being held to account for it, but it raises an important point.

Construction Boundaries
The Arcology in general should be deathly avoided when constructing anything. It is a massive structure as the sun sphere and the base ring will show and it is significantly larger beyond them to boot. Just to give a visual idea, this is how big part of the first arcology attempt was:
Image

I'm considering building the bottom half of the exteriors next, instead of one of the biomes, in order to give people a more visual and recognisable means of seeing explicitly the scale of the project. On that note, if anyone has any spare or leftover cobblestone, by all means bring it on over to the arcology site, we're really going to need it.

For now a good rule of thumb is if you either a) Can see the sun sphere or b) Are within 100 blocks of it (for reference, the sun sphere is 20 blocks wide), do NOT build anything.

I have taken claim to the lake in the lower left corner of the map. Beaches are on the left, grassland to the right. It's pretty hard to miss. Underwater building shall commence.

Gunner, there is plenty of room on that frozen sea near the Viking Village. I most likely won't be using the entire region I marked off, and only need a very small portion of the water area.

I like my current area, and have already started building it up. Eventually, when I've actually figured out what I want to do there, I may expand to the frozen sea, but likely not until some of the bugs with the winter biomes have being worked out (like placed water not freezing).
