MineCraft Classic shows the MotD at login, though. Current MineCraft only displays it in the server list.

Thanks for putting the server up for the next 6 months, approximately. :) Everyone give a hand to Dutch Ike. :)

Also, I heard two problems with the rail system. One, creeper damage. Was that repaired? I can't find it. Second, I knew I'd run into the problem of having the tracks becoming impassable walls. I was going to put in gates, but I didn't know where the high-traffic areas were. If someone could either mark them or tell me, I'll install them.

I've fixed the market to that mobs can't randomly give you stuff. I've also added glass, iron, and glowstone at rates that seem reasonable to me. I haven't heard from anyone regarding the rail system issues, so please let me know what issues you're having, so I can fix them. :)

You can now. Server's been upgraded to 1.5.2. :)

Actually, your situation is a good reason to download the development version of the launcher: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Versi ... t_versions
You can have multiple versions of MineCraft downloaded, and play them on various servers, as necessary.

I'll look in to that, though given I play only 1 server and only on-line, I'll just try to remember not to update until I've checked in future. :D

Rail Map for LRR Minecraft

Postby FourEyedTroll » 06 May 2013, 03:14

Image
Memo's Commuter Railroad

Just some creator's notes.

The is a Beck Principle map, and as such distances are not to scale
Station names have had player's names removed to make them shorter and more... rail-map-esque, with the exception of Xaphod's Interchange, which I've manipulated the name of slightly to fit better
I will attempt to update this as required to keep it current, but as with the railroad, it's a work in progress
All suggestions for improvements or alterations to this diagram are welcome

Well, it can be done. It's not going to be easy mind. I'm working on a plan for a prototype to go in item frames using a 1:1 in-game map. We just need an area of 128x128 blocks the conforms exactly to a map, and then we need a whole lot of snow, lava, leaves, obsidian, wood and water (sadly, all coloured wool shows up grey in maps).

I'm going to start work on a pixel-by-pixel bitmap to make it best fit, then test how it looks for real in SP.

This is how I expect it will appear in an MC map. Obviously it will appear a little bigger than this as the MC engine will render individual pixels on the map much larger than 1 pixel on the screen.

Bayou will connect to Lighthouse, if everything goes according to plan. If issues crop up doing that, I'll connect it to the Oriental Castle. Also, not sure what the different colors mean.
Also, there seems to be an extra stop between Havok's place and Xaphod's place that doesn't currently exist.

Finally, everyone's been asking for a server map (i.e. something accessible outside MineCraft), and I'll gladly do one, if someone could show me how.

Also, just backed up the server at 11 AM EST today, so if anything goes horribly wrong in the future, we can restore to here at least.

I'll amend it for the Flying Island Line (Brown) when that is completed then. The stop depicted (Homestead) does indeed exist, I assumed this was an un-sanctioned addition as the announcements and signs don't include it either.

The different colours show the different lines (i.e. change of distinct tracks). The loop is a little complicated after lighthouse, as you can get to lighthouse from Xaphod's station via Oriental Castle, but the line to Tri-biome from lighthouse is one-direction only (i.e. to get from Tri-biome to light house, you need either to walk to Oriental Castle, or travel via the Mountain Line). For a key though:

Blue - Loop Line
Green - Mountain Line
Red - Templemir Branch-line
Brown - Flying Island Line

If I've missed any track or routes, it's because I didn't see them during my travels, or couldn't find access to them, but I did my best to travel on every line I could get on to (and backwards up some others to work out where they went). If people want to test this map and let me know of any errors or additions/corrections, do feel free, the beauty of a Beck Map is that it's very easy to make alterations.

Edit: Have updated the original map to show line colour-code, and one-directional sections.

Well, I'm guessing it needs to be renamed, then, as "Tri-Biome Homestead" is one stop. Not sure why you split one name across 2 stops. I see that Havok added the stop next to his mansion, so I'll fix that up as an official stop.

Well, mainly because the new stop didn't have a name, but there's also a 'Mansion' stop on the map, so didn't have an alternative name. I'll make the needed alteration when it's been added fully.

OK, so Osprey, Red_Mist, and I were talking while the server was bugging out, so I don't know if all the questions and answers got answered. I rebooted the server and it seems to be running smoother now, but you two were gone when I got back.

Red: What do you mean you "accidentally" found spawn?
Also, jail is a 1x1x2 box floating above spawn with nothing to do.
Regarding your house, I'll just have to show you.

Osprey: You mentioned something about "new rules"? Well, I haven't changed the MotD since I started the server back up in January, so the rules are "new" from then. They're really just more explicit than before so no more incidents like December happen. And they're not really "new" to you guys, since they're the same as they've been since you started.

Alright, a few notes...

First off, dang, you guys have been busy. Keep up the good work. :)

Second, I hear there was a robbery and some discs were stolen. To be honest, I never saw those discs in frames at any time, recently or in the past. If I can see the scene of the crime, I'll make a judgment.

Third, I've installed an "Eternal Day" switch in my admin bunker. Just get my attention somehow if you want it switched on for a while.

Fourth, I'm going to get on adding quartz, diamond, and redstone to the Market soon.

The rail line between the Stronghold Library and Smeghead's Lighthouse has been reactivated. :) It now has a stop in the middle where you can branch off and go to Xaphod's Train Station instead. (That branch has track laid, but currently no boosters yet, so don't use it right yet.) I've added this to give options of which direction you want to go when you come out of the Nether (from the Arena exit, at least).

Osprey: With this and your additional line to the Templemir Lighthouse, you might want to update your map. :)

Regarding the updated map, you've got the StrongHold Library in the wrong position. It should have direct connections to BOTH the Xaphod's Train Station and Smeghead's Lighthouse. The Train Station doesn't have a direct connection to the Lighthouse.

So the Library should be between the two, not on the side.

Edit: The track switcher in the library is active and functional.

Yeah, I realised that late last night, though it's quite difficult to get rail branches like that right on a diagrammatic map and keep it looking neat. Will have a fiddle with it later today.

That said, aside from the stop at Oriental Castle, the station does connect to the lighthouse at the other platform, so to speak, but I grant you the diagram is misleading otherwise.

muihtils: You're going to have to show me your item sorting system with the hoppers again, since I tried to set one up myself and it didn't work.

Everyone: I asked previously and no one responded. Where exactly are the rails becoming impassible barriers? I will gladly put gates in high-traffic areas.

Everyone: Thank you everyone for your donations to the Community Storage. However, while you've been generous in your giving, no one's been taking. Therefore, Community Storage is quickly becoming filled, especially with food, weapons, armor and books. Please come to Spawn City sometime soon, check it out, and take anything you think you'll want. Otherwise, I'll start incinerating stuff we have too much of.

Everyone: How are you liking the market? Is trading levels for items something that works for you? I've seen it get sporadic use.
Also, any more items you'd like to see in the market? I'm going to add emeralds soon, and we already have iron, glass, quartz, glowstone, redstone, rails, and diamonds.
I had the idea of a more "traditional" market, where you trade items for other items. (I hear this is easy to do with plug-ins.) I was trying to work out in my head how to do it in vanilla, and I came up with two different solutions. However, each has their draw-backs, due to something I cannot determine in the system, so I'll lay out both ideas to you. Both systems have an output that can be determined, so I can easily determine what you get, but the problem lays in what you give.

System one: I can determine the type of items you give, but not the number. Therefore, while I could tell whether you're giving diamonds, iron, or cobble, I can't tell how many you have. Therefore, according to the system, 20 stacks of iron is the same as 1 piece of iron. Thus, when determining the conversion rate, I can only assume that you have 1 of the item, and convert accordingly.
This problem has a work-around, in that you just store your items in a chest (or Ender chest), pull 1 out, convert, pull another out, convert, etc. This is workable, but tedious with the back and forth. This system, while tedious, will work out more exact conversion rates, as long as you remember to hold only one of the item when trading.

This system works best for trading a high-value item for another high-value item, or a high-value item for multiple lower-value items.

System two: I can determine the number of items you give, but not the type. Therefore, I can tell if you're giving 10 or 100 of something, but I can't tell what it is, or even if it's a mixture of various things. Therefore, according to the system, 20 eggs = 20 diamonds = 10 dirt + 10 cobble = 5 emeralds + 2 fences + 3 doors + 10 planks, etc. Thus, when determining the conversion rate, I can only assume that you are giving low-value items, and convert accordingly.
This system can work more as a disposal conversion system, if you think about it. You toss a bunch of stuff that you don't need or want into the system, and out pops stuff you can use. A "trash to treasure" system, per se. Got too much cobble lying about? Is your egg farm filled to the brim? Trade them in for diamonds, redstone, glowstone, etc.! :)

So, I'd like to know 1. whether you'd like an item trading system at all, and 2. which system you'd prefer. (We could implement both types, as well, if that works, too.)

Well...

Barriers: Stopped being an issue for me much since becoming a sub-aquatic denizen.

Community Storage: Didn't even realise, will got take a look-see and bring some stuff.

Market: Is excellent, totally fine.

Trade-back: I don't mind about not being able to do this, though I think the trash>cash system has merit for disposing of excess seeds, eggs, flint, rotten flesh, saplings or whatever. Would basically make it into WoW where you can vendor trash all the crap loot you get I suppose.

If you go on type, I'd recommend gold and emeralds, given the role of emeralds as trade items anyway, and that gold has very little use for the most part, and is relatively rare as well.

Anyway, my two bits, all's well I reckon.
