I've played alot of (free) MMO's in my time. Scions of fate, Silk Road, Two Moons, LOTR, and Fiesta to name a few.
However, I've found that more often than not, these are all the same game in slightly different packaging. I played City of Villains for awhile and loved it, mostly because I had more options than Spellcaster, Warrior, Archer,or rouge and partially because I was a zombie-robot-pirate named Captain Von Mortus. Sadley I couldn't afford the game for a prolonged time.
So my question is this: does anyone know any free or relatively inexpensive MMO that's different from the ones mentioned above?

ACE Online was pretty good when I played it. Basically, MMO Spaceship FlightSim Battle RPG.
What if there were no hypothetical questions?

Second this suggestion.
"Flat beer or a lumpy mattress. Take your pick."
"I'd prefer a flat mattress."
"Hmm.. Well, it could be done.. If I take the lumps out of the mattress, and put them in the beer, you'd have a flat mattress and a lumpy beer!"

+1
Ultima is a... different experience. Particularly if you find a good server.
No leveling, it's all 2D top down (diablo style), and it's more about how you want to play the game than about how the game says you can play it. It allows for a lot of creativity both in character development and in how you spend your free time (ie, not hunting or crafting).
