no. The only way to win is to meta-game. If we try to stay in character and get distracted, we'll lose. It's fine to at the start, because day one is basically a waste of time, but after that we need to get down into some serious thinking about what's going on and how to win.

Well, apparently it's still day one, as he said avatar-less people had until night one to get avatars.

If we are meta-gaming, then from what I know of our suspected source material, Tapir seems to be the most suspicious for keeping an identity list.

not really, its a good tool to have some people posted there "name" weather they knew the implications or not, its alows us to keep information straight, we dont want people mixing up when i t comes to voting having to go back and forth between 5 or 6 pages of posts to hopefully find the right one

If this is really deathnote based then you need both a name and a face to make a kill. Having a list just makes it easier if someone is using a deathnote.

From the first page:

This is why I made the name list. If we have to refer to each other by name, it's easier to have a quick reference.

wait, what? I did not see that. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say names don't mean anything, because having names refer to your role makes it really hard for any players who aren't vanilla town to keep their rolls a secret.

Apparently it was cleverly hidden amongst the rules list. I assumed it was all the same and skipped it...

just to clarify. you have all been given a name, to roleplay you all should refer to one another by a name, but you can lie about your name to the group.

I just don't like metagaming in general. Maybe it's because I play a lot of live action, where metagaming is not tolerated at all, but it bugs the hell out of me in tabletop a bit, too.

And honestly, I don't care about actions. It's just been, what... a week or something? And we're still on day one.

you're obviously not terribly experience at this, are you? If you don't metagame, mafia will almost certainly win. Also, day one always takes forever.

I've never played mafia by post, just at camp. And usually in that case whoever was god kept things running quickly, and made up stories about squirrels killing people. Also, we never did anything on day one, because we didn't suspect anything until day two.

On a forum you dont have things like body language and voice pitches and natural reaction times to go off meaning meta gaming becomes more important

Yeah, I guess. :/ Maybe I'll run a game sometime and make a no metagaming rule and see how it works.
