I've always considered the airblast to be way more important than the backburner.

Wait. I heard a rumour that the backburner ALSO has an airblast now. Is that true?

The Backburner airblast takes 50 ammo, though. Still doesn't stop this happening.

So I tried it out and that 50 ammo was a bit of a shock at first. Although considering how little I need to use it and that I get the ammo back after the kill, it's a fair trade.

If you're a Pyro doing his job, you are going to find lots of ammo in close proximity, so it's not that big a deal.

Personally I prefer the Backburner, because it gives a massive advantage to attacking my enemies from a direction that isn't the angle they are shooting me from. Tactically speaking, running headlong into an enemy's firing direction isn't the smartest move for a predominantly melee-range class.

I am in love with the new Scout weapons.
Before I was going to the polyscout for the bonus 25, but the second I saw these new weapons I was like, screw it time for soda popper.
With them my scout has double in power, and I actually make a difference.
So on that note, anyone got a bonk boy they like to trade?

I'll likely be playing a fair bit of TF2 over the next few days. Add me if you want.

Yesh, I'd love a LRR TF2 server. I'm mostly heavy/demo/engy.

Apparently some of the new guys think that the point of the game is to hold down the fire button while staring at a wall.

*sigh*

Eventually they will saw through it will bullets. When that happens everyone will be in awe of the determination of the new players to shoot straight ahead and not at the scout(me) shooting them in the back.

Or at me, the dude building a sentry gun directly behind them.

Also saw an engineer build a sentry gun, and use the remote control to expend all the ammo directly in front of it. He also built one end of a teleportor, but throughout the entire match, never made the other end.

Yeah, it's sort of a lose-lose, isn't it? On one hand the influx has brought in a lot of new folk that are easy targets, but those players are so widespread that they're dragging everyone down, regardless of sides.

It's not exactly a very constructive learning environment to some of you new players, is it?

For what it's worth anyone who sees me online can ask me to join whatever server they're on if they're having trouble and I'll see what I can do to help. Take a bit of the pressure off from the other team, give tips and pointers, etcetera etcetera.

Those issues sound like they've never played online shoot-em-ups. Maybe I shouldn't have worried about sucking so much.

TF2 is a bit different than most of the other...well almost every fps out there. The skill cap is gigantic and the entry level is really low. It requires a lot more than lets say modern warfare where you essentially just have to see the other person first and have decent aim. Without them doing the tutorials at least or having a decent idea of the way the game types are played, they are at a MAJOR disadvantage if they are up against a average skilled team or even just a few really good people.

I knew coming into this game that I would be at a major disadvantage so I did the tutorials and a bunch of practice matches so get an idea of what classes I liked and what the game types were. I am guessing most of these people thought it was similar to most other fps (at the start and till a few weeks from how at least) so they didn't do those tutorials and what not.

I'm actually pretty happy that the tutorial system is in place and as extensive as it is. When I first started playing (back in January of '08) there was nothing like that. I had to learn how to play purely from trial and error, and it suuuuuucked.

Thank the Maker you guys have it easier than I did. Learning the ropes is going to be far more forgiving now that practice with the bots is an option.

Yeah, I'd agree. The new tutorial system is a lot better than it was; mind you, I'd like to see a bit more tactical training in it, and of course it needs to add in the other classes. It doesn't teach you, for instance, that the scout can double jump.

This. I only determined that the Scout could double jump via noticing the achievement for double jumping X amount of times.

While I still don't think jumping into a random server is a good idea due to my ineptitude, I've been playing the practice mode with bots lately and having a lot of fun with it; that mode is a much richer experience than it was when I bought the game. Also, I've found that turning on the options to have a sound effect when a shot hits and have numerical damage amounts flash has helped my game immensely via removing a lot of guesswork vis-a-vis how much damage I'm doing and even if I'm hitting at all.

Well its only a matter of time, since it was just announced that TF2 is free the influx of new players is much greater than it is now then it will be in say 6 months, so by that point these new players will learn the ropes and it at least be somewhat of an asset to their teams.
Heck I've only been playing for 3 months, but I can make it to the top points using. (mind you it's mostly because I'm stubburn and stay on the server after the much higher skilled, or of course premium users , have left, making me the somewhat above average person to be at the top, of course only compared to the other people.

We have to fulfill Graham's words, and make it so that we have the pile of hats he was wearing this week on Feed Dump be put in the game.
