Re: Miniature Wargamers Assemble
This thread makes me want to carry on building my Grey Knights army from a few years back. Too many metal miniatures, though. I only have a below-minimum-strength terminator squad (including a Brother-Captain), an Inquisitor Coteaz and retinue (I know, two HQs, but I wanted some choice and also the models are so cool), 2 regular squads and a Vindicare Assassin and it cost me quite the wad of cash. The expense! Won't somebody please think of the wallets!?
They are, however, all lovingly painted. I even added paving to the bases made out of cardboard from the boxes. Must post a picture at some point.

The Grey Knights have a new codex and plastic miniatures. I'm thinking about your wallet... empty

Hey if any of you are looking for a new skirmish game to give a try I would definitely recommend Carnivale or Empire of the Dead. We just got the rule books into the office and been having a few games. They're rather like Mordheim, except in Mordheim I don't think there are rules to allow you to have your character perform a wall run or control a gondola.

So who's gearing up for WH40k 6th Edition on 23rd June (because I think we all know that this is what GW's big secret is )

To be honest I haven't been keeping up with GW. Esspecially now that I need to allow cookies to check there site out (never gonna happen).
Privateer Press with their Hordes line (specifically Trollbloods) has my attention more. those rules are actually written to be played and work even if you have only 4 models.

When I went to the store to check the paint, it was closed, and they haven't answered the email I sent last week. I'm going there again tomorrow, sorry about the delay.

Hey! New 40K codex coming out? Might be time to finally try getting a Tau army. It'll be nice to have a miniature army I don't need like a million models for. Even just 1500 points of OnG Fantasy is quite a few minis.

No worries Avistew. I figured you were working on it. I'll be patient.

Re: Miniature Wargamers Assemble
Well, a bit of bad news.
The reason the store had been closed when I went seems to be that it's closed for good. When I looked inside it was empty. I don't know if they're changed locations, if so I'll try to track the new one, but if they've just closed then I won't be able to get you any paint.
The problem is it's the only gaming store in town, so that's annoying >.>

Re: Miniature Wargamers Assemble
Oh well. If you do happen to find the new location, that would be cool, but either way thanks very much. I know very few people who would check their local gameshops for a person they have never even met.
Again, thanks a bundle!

No worries I'll let you know if I do, or if I find a different store I guess. Good luck in your quest for paint!

Re: Miniature Wargamers Assemble
Is there much different? From this month's White Dwarf it seems to be more story based - what with warlord abilities and terrain events and so forth.
At least the codexes are still valid for the moment so I don't have to rejig everything!

Re: Miniature Wargamers Assemble
Apparently there are some big changes. The one Darrell (he's the one who calls Space Marines boys Geoff_B) is really excited about is you can now jump your miniature off the top of buildings rather than have to work your way down the various floors. Its a bit of a gamble as you have to take a dangerous terrain test which gets harder for every three inches of height, but it helps him because he tends to go for a very range based Space Wolf army with a unit of Long Fangs camping on top of buildings. Problem is in the last edition they used to get stomped if anyone comes up after them. Now they have a way out.
Re: Miniature Wargamers Assemble
I plan to get the new rulebook on Monday. I haven't played many games, so I wasn't 100% familiar with the 5th edition rules, but from what I've heard it's fairly different.
allies seem like it could be helpful for my Tau army if I can bring something to deal with enemies getting too close. Also an excuse to pick up more models and give GW more of my money, I guess.

Re: Miniature Wargamers Assemble
So there are rules now for jump pack infantry to come stomping down on the enemies' heads? It never really made sense before that they had to land 6" away when if you're bulked up with armour you could just goomba stomp them.

Re: Miniature Wargamers Assemble
I've not read much of my rulebook yet. Been too busy assembling 2000pts of Necrons with rapidly drying scraps of glue.
But what I have read so far, basically boils down to: WOOO! Charge phase! This makes multi assaulting so much less complicated!
Also abusing the wording of that rule in my mind already.
Squad of ork boys charge 5 termies? Whelp, quickly surround the combat with tac marines or something, the orks can't end their pile in move within 1" of an enemy model, forcing them to come at you a few at a time rather than just surrounding your ass like I used to do.
As a new Necron player, this is gunna be DAMNED fun. This is like 5.5ed.
Oh right, also Necrons can prettymuch pull off anything they want, ever. Our entire codex is BROKEN. Deathscythes? Seriously? Take two, get first turn, kill half of anything you really want dead with 300 points of flyers that get survivabillity out the ass because FLYERS BITCHES!

Re: Miniature Wargamers Assemble
The shake-down from 6th ed 40k is interesting and all, but I literally cannot recall the last game of 40k that I played, recon it must have been at Games Day UK in the final months of 4th ed (in fact it was the year Apocalypse launched, whenever that was). I've nothing against 40k or WFB, I love all the new miniatures these days, I've just no time/money/etc to put into it.
What I've played lots of since that time however is Inquisitor, the GW Specialist Game with the lovely big miniatures. Great game, a thriving if compact player base exists that creates new rules and background as well as roughly 3 community organised 1-day events a year at Warhammer World, including the Inquisitor Grand Tournament.
In the non-miniature, but related world of pen-and-paper RPGs, I also regularly play the 40k-set Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader with a Skype-based group of fellow british Inquisitor gamers.

I think if you charge with a jump pack it gives you an additional attack that automatically hits. Hammer of wrath special rule I think?
I think the overwatch rule could be of benefit when the inevitable assault that I am trying to stay away from catches up to me
I'm keen to actually play with the new rules.

Guardsmen vs orks.
Overwatch is going to be batshit for both of those armies if they mass infantry.
