I really like the ogre, although the shadows in the feet look a bit too dark to me, but that could be just me.

I'm not very happy with it. Lots of details got washed out in a defective white paint, especially in the feet.

Personally, this is still my favorite model. One of these days I'm gonna finish both my Space Marines and Orks. But having started a Trollbloods battle group doesn't help with that.

This seems to be the best place to ask for some advice.
When assembling models, is it fine to just go with the flow or would you recommend checking codexes and the like to make sure you use the right parts, the weapons that go together, the head that goes with the right kind of body/weapon, etc? Does any "mistake" make them tournament illegal or something?
Or can you pretty much go with whatever you want?

The Ork looks pretty awesome. I've been thinking of maybe painting some at some point.

I would check the codex for legal weapon combinations, but heads/bodies/etc. are never restricted and shouldn't be in my opinion. Heck, a few of my normal Orks Boyz have both a Choppa and a Shoota. Technically this is impossible, but it makes them look cool and even if it were possible the rules for the model wouldn't change one bit.
Just make sure your opponent can see in a single look what model it is supposed to represent, any additional flourishes are there to make it unique.

It would be better if the models had some sort of peg/slot arrangement for arms and weapons. For example I've built my assault sergeant to have a power fist/plasma pistol, but that leaves a lot of components unused and if I wanted to give him a power sword instead there would be hassle. It's the one thing I don't like about the way minis are done at the moment.

When I was putting together my Tau crisis battlesuits I read some things about people using magnets to make their weaponry interchangeable. Seems a good idea.

I was inspired to work on my empire great cannon. I'll post some pictures at some point.

You can get quite small, powerful magnets and I know people that use them. But yeah, they're mainly only for vehicles and the like. Thankfully anyone but the strictest of tournaments will generally let you use standins as long as you make it clear to your opponent beforehand what they are.

My husband built some of his miniatures with magnets. The dreadnoughts for instance, but also the terminators. The magnets we have are too big for the regular space marines though.

Is that the metal model or is it resin?

It's metal. I don't know if there is a resin version, when we ordered it we got a metal one.

GW are redoing all their metals in resin as part of the finecast range. I was just curious.

Ah, I see. Well we have this one and a Chaplain as metal, and all our other minis are resin. I have to say I quite enjoyed painting metal, and the weight adds a satisfied feeling for some reason... Seems like a paint to put together though, with the drilling and pinning and all.

I should really finish my BloodBowl team and get the up on here. I'm awful for starting projects and not getting them finished, but I keep trying to do bits now and then when the mood takes me. I have so many armies in so many scales, I forget which ones need paint-attention and which need photographing for display...

Did some painting the other day, It's the crew for my Empire great cannon. I think I need to dirty up their pants a bit, otherwise they look okay, considering I haven't really painted for quite a while.

The guy on the right looks a bit derpy
