Actually, as an aside, one thing I learned from the Art of Mass Effect book is a bit of Turian physiology. You know those carapaces they have on their armour? That's not just the armour. Those carapaces are part of their body. So when Garrus took a gunship to the face and had half his armour blown out that was actually part of his body that got cut up.

So now you know.

After playing 2 hours and being screwed over crossing between 360 too pc I feel I should re-play 1-2 before I take the hit of 3 with a fucked save file.

I'm loving it. I don't fully agree with some of the changes they made but I can work with them. I can't wait to see how it's going to turn out :D

I'm a Level 18 Human Adept, Live: LogicSword

As for the game itself...

Hmmm.

[Up till the last five minutes, amazing game. After that, it gets into some weird metaphyiscal thing that doesn't make any sense. I'm a bit annoyed that nothing I did in any of the games made any impact on the final decision (seriously, what was the point of gathering all those troops?) and... you know what? I'm annoyed that despite doing everything I could, it was going to end with the universe sucking.

Minor annoyance is that Shephard isn't going to settle down and live the rest of his life with Ashley, which as someone pathetically romantic sucks, although I could've dealt with that had the ending not been so... terrible.

Yeah the end kinda got to me

Massive spoilers
Sheppard dying seemed a given haven't seen all three ends but I did like how the reapers are never really defeated fits the cosmicism from ME1

Should have ended with an epilogue with joker and the surviving squad instead of just cutting off after they crash on some totally random planet.

Link and associated comments will have spoilers for the ending.

This is how many people feel about the ending.

The last five minutes just didn't feel like the same game at all, the format in which the final choice was delivered was so far out of left field that it completely threw a lot of people.

Though I'm personally fond of the theory that the last 5-10 minutes are actually a hallucination/representation of indoctrination, with the creepy ai god-child trying to convince Shepard to choose one of the not-destruction endings. Note that destroying the reapers is supposedly the only ending in which Shepard can live.

I do like that theory. It's leant weight by the fact that the paragon/renegade colours are the wrong way round for the final choice.

Came out on the 8th here and I finished the single player in three days... Which to be honest for a Mass Effect game is very short, I know they shoe horned in the multiplayer which I haven't tried yet but really?

[rant]
I guess another part of it would be that it seemed that much easier than the previous two games. The enemies just seemed weedy, Cerberus just seemed undergunned in the previous games just about every second merc or geth you faced was totting a rocket launcher and while the guardians made a nice change it was made completely obsolete once you found a piercing attachment for your heavy pistol (Hell you could even shoot away the Phantoms sword, which kind of takes away the whole point of it). As for the reapers, sure the Banshee and Brute could kill you in one hit... if they got close enough and you hadn't already seen them telegraphing like crazy. All of which maybe makes sense considering how frustrating the Scions and Preatorians from ME2 were, but maybe bioware swung the nerf bat a little too hard, just saying. Last but not least, variety, in ME1 (plus dlc) there are 91 enemie models, in ME2 (plus dlc) there are 99, in ME3 there are 22. What the hell?
[/rant]

Sorry for the rambling, and yes i think the endding was a bit of a cop out too.

That doesn't account for the bright pink hippos I am currently riding.

Anyway, in an effort to discuss things in the game I have actually done, I did the mission shown in the Against All Odds trailer. Wow. Just, wow.

Might be alone in this but I thought the ending was brilliant.
Sure the whole effort of the game felt ultimately useless, no matter how much you stockpile and build up, it all comes down to a choice that results in almost the same ending.
Yeah, the whole Catalyst is the big boss thing was a bit stupid, but hey, they jumped the shark earlier than that, didn't they (dammit EDI, I liked you better as a sphere). But the build up was fantastic. The sequence where you run towards the conduit, the confrontation with the Illusive Man - all brilliant in my mind. Every single moment, pre-Catalyst contact was sublime. I even liked the part with the crashed Normandy. Bit of a consolation and it ends on a somewhat optimistic tone.

Of course, that's just my opinion, but this backlash is really out of hand.

...and was I the only one seeing parallels to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (the second half at least)?

I was sensible and finished the game before reading this thread.
I enjoyed the game. I disagree that the game was too short. I was sick of the game by the time I finished. I found most combat sections very intense (I was vanguard). It sort of exhausted me.

The ending:
I liked the game. The endings were good(ish), maybe a bit merh choice wise. Problem is, they don't take into account your decisions before hand. The theory of after being knocked out by the thingy and indoctrinationness is interesting. I need time to reflect. Oh Cortez

Slowly coming round to the ending, particularly thanks to the indoctrination theory. It does seem like too much of a weird direction to take the game otherwise.
