So, how'd you make out? Post your Steam Summer Sale purchase

Postby Wraith » 22 Jul 2013, 11:24

So, the big Steam Summer Sale has drawn to a close. In previous years, I've gone a bit over-board and felt really guilty afterwards. So this year, I made a couple of rules for myself: no buying anything over $5.00 (exccept for bundles), and no buying anything that's less than 75% off. Thankfully, I managed to land a few sidejobs (I kind of have a love/hate relationship with malware. It's so detestable; yet I do make good money killing it).

I picked up:

--Just Cause
--Fallout Collection (Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics) - been waiting so long for that to go on sale!
--Retro City Rampage
--Saints Row 2
--Sonic Adventure DX
--Sonic 4 Episode I
--Sonic 4 Episode II
--Assassin's Creed Revelations + all DLC
--Sonic Adventure 2 + Battlle DLC
--Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
--Garry's Mod
--Resident Evil 5
--Saints Row The Third's Bloodsucker & Unlockable packs (the only DLC I was missing)
--The Bard's Tale
--Devil May Cry 3
--Devil May Cry 4
--System Shock 2
--Castle Crashers
--The Witcher
--The Witcher 2
--Tomb Raider (the original)
--Tomb Raider II
--Tomb Raider III
--Tomb Raider IV: The Last Revelation
--Tomb Raider V: Chronicles
--Tomb Raider VI: The Angel of Darkness
--DLC Quest
--No Time To Explain

And "the basement collections" featuring:

--Aether
--Time Fcuk
--Spewer
--Meat Boy
--Grey Matter
--Coil
--Triachnid

I was gifted:

--Terraria - Thanks Empath!
--Tropico 4 - Pretty sure that was Mr. Fiend, yea? Big thanks on that.

So, how'd everyone else make out? I'm now up to 458 games total, just 42 away from the "director of Acquisitions" badge.

I bought:

Fez
Payday: The Heist
Deus Ex Human Revolution
Torchlight 2
Sleeping Dogs DLC
Borderlands 2 DLC

I also bought a friend Payday and Spec Ops: The Line. I spent roughly $50, which compared to other years, is about at 400% increase (yay comp that runs games).

Not a huge haul, but I'm pretty happy with it:

Skyrim legendary edition (my one "big" purchase)
The Witcher 2
Tomb Raider
FTL

In total I spent about £31, which isn't too bad considering Skyrim makes up most of that since I bought the others in flash sales. It's a circus of value!

I haven't spent too much on any one sale since my first Steam sale. This time I picked up:

Scibblenauts Unlimited – I enjoyed both of the DS Scribblenauts games, so I've been waiting for this to get a good sale.
Deus Ex Human Revolution: The Missing Link DLC – Been meaning to pick this up for a while, and it was only about a dollar.
Dungeons of Dredmore & DLC – I've heard good things, and on the last day of the sale I had $3.75 in my Steam wallet from selling cards, so I decided to try it out.
Velvet Assassin – I've heard that it isn't great, but I've been curious about it since it came out, and it was only $1.24, so I could handily pick up this and Dredmore with what I had in my Steam wallet. I've only played through the first two levels, but so far I've been presently surprised. It's far from great, but doesn't seem as bad as I'd heard.

In the end, I only spent about $3, the rest was covered by trading cards. I'm pretty pleased with that.

Bioshock 2
Bioshock Infinite
Dishonored
A bunch of Magicka DLC
The Secret World
Scribblenauts
Sniper Ghost Warrior 2
The Witcher 2 (which gave me incentive to endure starting The Witcher 1 all over again after I lost my old save a level or two through.)
Worms Revolution season pass

And enough cards to pay for the costs of 90% of it. Rarely spent real money. Except for buying Skyrim cards which took me to level 10, got me a great new profile and immediately got me a booster pack which confirmed my suspicions that you're damn near never going to get one under level 9!

Well, this could be... embarrassing, as I bought a bunch of games that I'm pretty sure are terrible, mostly because I wanted to experience the badness. The Last Remnant for example, I bought because it spawned one of my favorite episodes of Unskippable, but that's an AWFUL reason to purchase a game. It'd be like purchasing Zoids Assault... One day I will probably pirate Zoids Assault, just to experience that...

My haul, in reverse order:
Torchlight II
Tomb Raider: Survival Edition ROW
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
Hitman Absolution Professional
Rayman Origins
Evoland
Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition
Deus Ex Human Revolution: The Missing Link DLC
Fallout 3 - Game of the Year
Fallout New Vegas Ultimate
Rogue Legacy
Overlord Complete Pack
Bully: Scholarship Edition
Final Fantasy VII
Darksiders
Darksiders II
Saints Row 2 (ROW) <-I totally forgot I bought this
The Longest Journey + Dreamfall
Borderlands 2 Psycho Pack
The Binding Of Isaac
The Last Remnant
Scribblenauts Unlimited
Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
Fable The Lost Chapters

I think I'm mostly embarrassed by how many games I ended up purchasing.

I bought Bastion, BioShock Infinite, the whole Deus Ex package, all the Civ V DLC (already had the game), System Shock 2, and several indie games like No Time to Explain.

DC Universe Online DLC (4 of them. Mainly to get the powers and weapons. Motherfrugging Electricity)
And Saints Row 2 (even though it was a normal sale).

Lack of actual money and a shit laptop helped me not buy anything I reallly wanted.

Beware. The game has a habit of auto saving you as you enter a place with a boss fight it didn't hint at. Especially when the game hasn't given you enough time to level up...
Awesome music though.

Bioshock Infinite
Dishonored
Natural Selection 2
Baulder's Gate EE

I missed Just Cause 2, which I thought I had bought, but apparently didn't, and I don't really feel like paying $15 for.

With previous sales, and Humble Bundles, and Indies Royale, I didn't really have a lot I was after this time around. I would have bought FF7, if I hadn't bought it when it came out.

Whew, I did more than I thought:

Started off by FINALLY getting Half-Life 2 and checked out the recent indie game Organ Trail: Director's Cut
and Master Gunner giving me System Shock 2,
then I bought L.A. Noire DLC (I swear I'll get to that promising-sounding game SOON ;) )
picked up Nuclear Dawn.
Carrier Command: Gaea Mission (my AAA purchase)
then some indie/non-top tier releases:
Weird Worlds: Return to Infinte Space
Afterfall Insanity Extended Edition
Beat Hazard Complete
and got the DLC for Dungeons of Dredmor
and the Courier's Stash for Fallout: New Vegas
finally got off my butt and picked up Saints Row 2
then decided to check out all the good buzz about Retro City Rampage
and got a TURN-based strategy game Highborn (and its DLC)
...and then Mister Fiend gave me a copy of Borderlands 2! :D

All said and done? A fair amount of stuff for maybe less than the price of a new-release AAA title!

I happily saw my friends pick up
Torchlight 2
and
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3

Means I now have more things to say to them besides "Hi." and "How are you" and "brb" and "g2g" and "Gz"

What with already milking previous sales for all they were worth and not really having much disposable income this time round, was somewhat reserved in my purchases, but still couldn't resist picking up a few things along the way.

Skyrim Hearthfire
Skyrim - Dawnguard
The Elder Scrolls V: Dragonborn DLC
Magicka The Other Side of the Coin
DLC Quest
The Dark Eye
No Time To Explain
The 39 Steps
Age of Empires II
Antichamber

The Magicka DLC I managed to get for free, by selling off trading cards on the market, which was pretty awesome.

I would have bought Hearthfire but (excluding the money issue) since I still hadn't finished Dawnguard, and rarely play Skyrim for more than an hour every month, I couldn't justify buying it.

I wish Age of Empires 2 was cheaper mind you. I wasn't keen on paying that price on a game with graphic aesthetics that look awful now-a-days. It looked like all was done was enabled easier Multiplayer and increased the screensize.

I kept it pretty civil this year. I only bought Antichamber and both Borderlands 2 and Dishonored in preparation of my new PC. The fact I'm not going to get the new PC after all because the upgrade is marginal compared to my laptop kind of makes me itchy for the last two :S

On a side-note, who do I PM to get an invite to the LRR steam group?

Um... just join it, surely?

I got spec ops, mark of the ninja and orcs must die 2, managed to seriously restrict myself, considering all the games I wanted, none of which I'd probably have time to play

Also, turns out I don't give my laptop enough credit. Dishonored and BL2 run just fine :)

Well we could always have some sort of initiation ceremony with paddles and whatnot, but since you probably live nowhere near another forumite, you'll have to do it to yourself and if anyone walks in on that it'd take quite a bit of explaining

I've made ~ £1.50 from selling things on the market place. Like the cards. ~10p each. As low as 3p sometimes.

Given it's only a few clicks to do... worth it. I mean, I'm worth 10p a minute, if I got employed.
