I checked the forum, hands still shaking from lack of coffee and sleep. I scanned the lists of meaningless, inanity about games I didn't have the time or money (or system) to play, then something caught my eye.

The words were like sweet nectar to my eyes. I had to read them again to be sure. More Mafia. This was my chance, my redemption. Getting lynched in the last game had hit me pretty hard; I'd paid in full for my lack of attention to detail. But now, someone up there was giving me a second chance, and I wasn't going to refuse.

I clicked on 'Quick Reply' box and began to type, swearing that, this time, I wouldn't take anything for granted. 'I'm in,' I wrote.

My cursor hovered over the 'Submit' button. What if I failed again? I asked myself. Could I afford to get bitten again? Could I afford not to take that risk? I couldn't afford to waver, I had to act, had to get back in the game. I closed my eyes and prayed to whatever cosmic force was up there, if there was anything up there, to let use this second chance. I knew it was futile; God helps those who help themselves after all. I only have myself and my instincts, it's all I've ever had, and it's gotten me this far, hasn't it?

I clicked the button. I was in.
