XCOM Desert Bus Run

Postby Bryy M. Miller » 11 Nov 2013, 21:34

So I bought XCOM: Enemy Within tonight, and am about to start a new game. Kroze asked me if I did an All-Kroze Run yet, to which I replied that I did, and to which he asked me "why?"; but this got me thinking:

Desert Bus Run.
This means Dix, Kroze, Pika, Graham, etc. are all going to be squaddies. I will detail their lives and their deaths. Their gruesome deaths. Unless I'm playing on Easy.

Obviously, I'm not going to do this DURING DB, but rather this week leading up to it. I thought about doing a Desert Bus Iroman, but that would take far too long. Maybe, if enough people threaten my life, I will after this one.

I will try to livestream this, but being a non-hip 31 year old, that may not work. I hope to chronicle my adventures in this thread if I can.

Sounds like a cool lead-up (smart on not doing it alongside DB :P). I'll watch this space :)

My first squad:

Ashton
Kathleen
Roscoe Jangles
Pika Chaos

Ashton died heroically running into a room, giving Kathleen time to reload. Pika was promoted to a sniper, and Roscoe is an Assault unit.

I'm going to try to upgrade Dix, who is in reserves, to a mech as soon as possible.

I now have the humorous image of Ashton just running into the wall of the next room, killing himself on impact, to distract the aliens.

I have around 230 Meld by now, so I decided to start in on my Cyber and Genetic Labs. I will clone Ashton as well.

Kathleen fell to one of the new cloaking aliens. Tally, my Point for Heavy, took her revenge via Overwatch.

I'm beginning to assemble my Wrecker Crew (the cyborg unit):
Dixon
Kroze
Ashton 2
Kate Stark

Wait, you can clone people now?

No, but in my narrative you can. I use Kroze as my meat fodder.

As soon as he got to a high enough rank, I called Dixon I the nickname of 'Prototype' - and then promptly killed him.

Roscoe Jangles, Kate Stark, and Ian Dixon II literally tear bus up now. Tally is going to be the fourth Wrecker - she'll be a medic bot.

Andy was a fun experiment. I tried him out as a sniper, and now he is invaluable to the team. His nickname is Music Man. He makes his rifle sing. Just put him on top of a roof and watch things die. I always put him on Overwatch, and now it's like my squads have their own guardian angel. Nothing touches them. The Music Man won't let them.
