Portal Prelude

Postby CyberTractor » 11 Oct 2008, 16:16

That's right, folks!

The first third party mod for Portal just came out.

Pre-GlaDOS, you play as another test subject. :)

The AIs this time are pretty awesome.

So... go look it up and download it.

I downloaded it the other day but I can't install it with my legally purchased and not-at-all torrented copy of Portal

I do actually do have a totally legal and not-torrented copy of Portal, so I will be downloading it.

Isn't Valve making an official Portal prequel as well?

Valve is making Portal 2 to my knowledge, not sure if it's a prequel but they have said multiplayer is a possibility.

I've had this downloaded and installed for about a day now and have just been really busy. Hopefully I'll have some time to make some headway in it later today (It being 3 AM here right now) but so far it looks good.

Yeah, I'm still in the middle of restoring my computer pretty much from scratch, so as much as I want to, I doubt I'm going to be able to play this for a while.

Search "Portal Prelude".

So I just played a bit of it, and I'm somewhat confused. How exactly do you get past the first level without dying?

I was afraid of that... the PS3 controller is so natural at least to me... I used to be big on PC gaming, but I'm starting let that go...

It's hard! D:

These take a lot more timing and skill than Portal did.

Also, some bits of dialog are pretty funny. :)

I beat it a few days ago. It was one of the hardest things I have done. I beat all of the Portal challenges and this was still a bit harder.

it's so frustrating. possibly too frustrating. i don't have the time or patience to spend timing my portal jumps just right. got bored after 20 mins. :(
did anyone else watch the installer? i saw badger badger badger.wav in there. i really like this premise, but, save those ridiculously stupid jumps for people who want to complete the challenge levels. i just want a fun game. and a flashlight.
might give it a go again later.

most of the people I've talked to said it completely missed the point . ... and wasn't hard because the puzzles were mind numbingly difficult but rather the levels were designed to make it too fucking hard to execute the solutions.

It's less "now where do I need to put this portal" and more "now I need to fire at this exact point of my jump". As a result the game suffers for it.
