Don't know the game, but the spelling mistake is "missles"

ok some more hints,

It's point and click but later also has some combat in it with multiple weapons.
It's for DOS.
It had a high age rating.

Both wrong, but darkseed is close in the grand scheme of things.

Another hint,
The game had 3 CD's.
And the different endings are messed up and sick.

It uses the Duke Nukem 3D engine, its not a mod. This was released commercially.

It's a C64 game, and in my case I even got it bundled with the machine when I was a kid.

That game is actually a top down shooter.
So, no.

This game is 100% sidescroller,
Was bundled with certain newer C64 packages.
At the end of the levels you could use collected keys to open locked display cases with weapons and other power ups.
During the final level the display cases contain something else.
