I don't think it will really stop spies that much: it should be easily visible, and it will only take a few pistol shots at close range to down a sniper, especially as the sniper will (presumably) have no smg with which to fight at close range, and the slow down will also greatly weaken him as he'll be unable to use his machete effectively.. The main danger for the spy is that the pistol is not an instantaneous kill, so he's at risk from the rest of the team.

The description seems to imply that it won't be visible though, or else spies would just not stab them, but it describes it as a surprise.

Surely a spy can now just get close to snipers and revolver them? Revolver is so underrated seeing as its crit damage can kill most snipers and scouts in a couple of shots

I love the idea of being immune to the backstabs, as spies are the bane of my existence. However, only having one stab and then it explodes? And you need to sacrifice a weapon for that? Thats...well, it will save me one stab which would have been my life.

I don't know. Something just doesn't seem right for some reason.

Considering how often I use the SMG as a sniper.....I'm not sure it would be worth it.

DANG YOU VALVE! DANG YOU ALL TO HECK!

I was fine with Medics, I don't encounter them often.
I was fine with Pyros, it was annoying but avoidable.
I was fine with Heavies, nothing a level 3 Sentry still can't handle.
I was semi-annoyed with Scouts, but Bonk! don't last long enough for them to handle both my Sentry and I.

The metal-recharges-cloak bit was pretty freaking to me, especially when I figured out a cloaked and disguised Spy could use my Dispenser to stay invisible.

But this is insane! Update the Engies before you update the Spies!

Oh WOW. Now that's what I call awesome. It's good that they are doing this, now we won't just see everyone as sniper on servers.

Also this will balance out the amount of engies on servers. While they are fun, I hate the fact that they are the most played class, globaly.

My only question is what will the watch replace? Will it be something you add on to the spy, or will it replace the sapper? Either way, however, *gape*. Both of those would be rather amazing.

I'm guessing that the new cloak will replace the old one. As for the other one, I have no idea.

Well that throws a delightful monkey wrench into things. That's excellent.

You can't get rid of the sapper, I'd imagine the dead wringer replaces the revolver. Typically when a spy gets shot at like that, one of the first things they do is pull out the old revolver to cover their escape. Having a decoy dead body would replace this, and force spies to get more stabby than shooty.

I think they both replace the cloak watch.. so you can't have both of them equipped at the same time.

I just never really understood the point of these varied release dates. It strikes me that each time an update comes out, it unbalances the game.

The idea behind the upgrades is that they're supposed to be different ways to play rather than pure upgrades, so releasing them staggered like wouldn't make much of a difference, gameplay wise.

I was thinking that yeah, these are kind of a trade-off as simple watch replacements (except for the dead ringer, unless you just couldn't use stealth normally) but... if the spy has to actually lose a weapon for the dead ringer that's honestly not going to be worth it.
Also it's interesting that the Dead Ringer is a really good counter to the Razorback.

A question, though... How do you get another razorback? Do you recharge at a dispenser? Do you just get it back after a while (a la baseball) or is it a "one-per-life" deal? This would change a LOT.

I'm glad one of the watches puts feigning death back into the game from TFC... but I too wonder how it's going to recharge. The ability to feign death was infinitely useful.... just get a feeling that people are going to be shooting wildly at corpses now.

I doubt shooting the corpses will do anything, they're dummies. The Dead Ringer watch cloaks the spy, so while you're shooting at a non-existent corpse, he'll be stabbing you in the back.
