Team Fortress 2 Classless Update!

So fresh out of left field, its a TF2 update...
For no specific class.

Unveiled today were 18 new hats for the classes (two each?), with five more days of updates to come.

The furious little miners over at fightingamphibians dug out some interesting things from this update:

SPECULATION TIME!

I predict the long-awaited trading system, maybe a new non-community map (and possibly gameplay mode), some overall gameplay tweaks and either meet the medic or meet the pyro.

There's also the chance that this is a sneak soldier update, but I sort of doubt it. They have however been hinting REALLY HARD that soldier is up next.

I wonder what sort of hats they have in mind for the sniper, since he already has one and looks perfect in it.

Am I the only one who hated a) the ODDS of getting a hat, and b)the pyro, medic, and scout hat?

I'm still holding out hope that the Engineer update is coming soon, Spies are just unstoppable nowadays.

I can't decide what to think about this. I should really play more of the TF2 that already exists, but stupid collect-em-all hats will ruin it for me.

You're not the only one who hates the Pyro's beanie. The new Pyro fireman's hat is awesome though. However, I remember that someone went deep into the TF2 gcf's a while back found one of those chef's hats and I'd much rather have that hat for a Pyro.

Why would something totally optional and cosmetic ruin a solid game for you?

Just don't collect them all. Unless you have severe OCD I can't see how hats are a problem...

I don't have severe OCD, but I am a bit of a completionist, and not having all the hats will bother me. Also, it will mean at least one weekend of TF2 being full of every annoying preteen this side of Moldova.

It could just be me, but all this talk of "Gentle Mannes" makes me think of the TFC Civilian, even though he didn't wear a hat. He may however fit the criteria of Classless.

I love the idea of hats. TF2 is fun and silly first and foremost to me, and hats make it even more so.

Also, I must be playing Engineer wrong because I have no problem with spies.

Oh snap! I actually did some koth-type maps a while back using a prefab on fpsbanana. Now it's a Valve-endorsed game mode! I feel special.

My server has speculated: The ability to build multiple weaker sentries, ability to build bomb omb like things, and a wrench that does less melee damage but heals sentry more.

That robot fits with the bomb omb things...

They're currently doing a 2nd beta test with competitive players - One of the items being tested is a wrench that assembles things faster but can't upgrade.

My prediction is that this update will be classless as they say - next few days will probably see the trading system unveiled, a meet the class video and maybe some more maps. I'm not holding my breath for another surprise update like last time. I think soldier will be next and then engy/demoman will be the last hurrah.

As for the hidden links, I'm really not sure. It might have something to do with the RSS feed.

Huh? None of the changes to spy have made it more effective against Engineer. They were never really more than a secondary concern for engineers in the first place. Sounds to me like you're just a failgineer, bro.

What I don't understand is why they have more hats for the Spy. I have the fedora, and if I find ANY OTHER SPY HAT it would be such a waste, because I have the freaking FEDORA!
