We don't know where this world is, or why we should care, but apparently it's dawn.

Ok one thing is that they ripped of yggdrasil... that's acceptable... but Ratatosk? that is a squirrel that is a sub-god for gossip...
If I'm half-mad, then which do you think I consider my better half?
Re: Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
The tree is actually called Yggdrasil in the original Tales of Symphonia, guess they lost the licence.
As a huge ToS fan, this has only made me want to play this game more.

NO
BAD
THIS GAME IS FAIL.
The original ToS was phenomenal. This game? Not so much. It's a pile of crap. They made a few bits of the combat slightly better, and made basically everything else a thousand times worse.
Sigh. But that's just my opinion.

It's a shame that the opening cutscene doesn't quite get to "courage is the magic that turns dreams into reality" territory. Even just this was stupidly cathartic, so thank you.
They never explicitly name the tree in ToS. It's called Yggdrasil in Phantasia and it's meant to be a cheeky winkwinknudgenudge.
Also dear god please never play this game.

Ratatosk, I choose you!
Also, that orb thing totally looks like the palantir from LotR.

Holy SHIT, was this a horrible cutscene. I mean, sometimes the ones you guys mock are reasonably okay on their own, even entertaining enough that I might want to watch them without the commentary (hilarious though it is), but...wow.
Graham, Paul, I think you may have met your match. Not even you guys could save this one. The pacing was awful, the way it just jumped around from narrative to exposition was confusing, the animation was laughably bad, there was no discernible reason for me to care about anything going on...I mean, wow.
That I managed to laugh several times anyway is a testament to your snark skills, guys.

Look at it like this: Dawn of the New World has all the same characters as the original (plus a few), but their personalities are completely destroyed. Like remember how Zelos was a jerk with a heart of gold in the original? Yeah, in DotNW he's just a jerk. I like to think of DotNW actually being a completely different game, so when you see Lloyd Irving doing evil things, it's actually someone you don't know. Oh, he has the same name and clothes as the protagonist for another game? Pure coincidence.

It is a pity that the opening film not very well "Courage is the magic that turns dreams into reality" territory. Although I was madly cathartic, thank you.
