Unskippable 2: Dead Rising

Postby Frozengale » 12 Jan 2009, 11:38

So I know you can talk about this on the escapist but I thought we should talk about it amongst the LRR viewers and see how they think it adds up to past Unskippables and their other movies.

So I just finished watching this one and I have to say not as good as Eternal Sonata, Graham and Paul seemed more interrupting then funny in the last one and the jokes were a bit less funny. Maybe it's because the opening to Dead Rising isn't all that bad (or I don't think it is) so it's a bit harder to make fun of, and maybe we just need to wait for Graham and Paul to get into the groove of making these and they will be better. Compared to all the other movies that LRR has done this wouldn't even get near to one of my favorites, (although the Eternal Sonata one might). My advice is to go for intros that are a bit more ridiculous and try not to make some of the more obvious jokes that can be made, we know you guys are creative so maybe it's just the time crunch that's making your creativity dwindle a bit.

I thought this one was better than Eternal Sonata. There was more action in the cutscene, so that helped things move along a little more quickly. Some good continuing jokes, too.

I still like Lost Planet best, but this one was good.

Yeah, this one didn't thrill me too much. Though "Ooooh god it's further than I thought it was!" made me laugh out loud.

I think its mostly the direct non-abstract interaction between realistic people that makes this harder to make fun of.

In Lost planet you had the usual over the top militaristic talk and unbound action and in Eternal sonata everything was just so unreal.

My favourites:

Using actual dialogue to make fun of his junk.
You wanna shoot the whole town? Alright!

Stuff I hoped for:

Using the Jack Shit comment on the in-cutscene "shit" as the blackhawks emerge.

I must agree with re'ozul and DimitriW. Not as good as the previous two.

I'd expected this before, but it appears that the quality of an Unskippable episode is inversely proportional to the quality of the cutscene being used. Since Dead Rising's opening cutscene was merely "lame," and not horrific(or even, I'd say, particularly bad), the episode wasn't as good as Eternal Sonata, for which the cutscene was HORRIBLE!

There were some things I liked in this, some things I didn't. The Lost Planet one is still my favourite, but I'm sure they'll get into the groove of doing these soon enough.

I thought this one was definitely better than the Eternal Sonota one; I think the action packed cuscenes fit G&P's style more.

I liked it, but I liked the Eternal Sonata better, maybe because it was longer or because it was eaiser to mock, but I did like the whole "are you taking pictures of your junk?"

We have to keep them short or the Escapist gets uppity.
No, I'm kidding, but 6 minutes is long enough.

Also, the hat thing: It's a bonus item that isn't supposed to be there, so making fun of it would just raise the ire of Dead Rising fans.

Also, we're not actually there to make fun of bad games, per se. We're just making jokes at the expense of games. And listening to two guys laugh at graphical glitches isn't funny.

I really enjoyed it when you hummed "Ride of the Valkyries". So very topical.
Overall, still Lost Planet best, but I liked this one too. I think there is, as mentioned previously, an inverse relationship between the quality of the cutscene and the humour derived from it.

I hate to say that Unskippable has become worse but it's still kind of new and should pick up soon. I've enjoyed certain bits from the recent two like the humming to the valkyries and taking photos of his wang.
Lost Planet is still the best in my opinion.

So far, Unskippable's total run has been approximately 66% awesome. I suspect Dead Rising was a fluke and it'll be back to the usual awesome next week.

It is a some what unfortunate but I feel that Lost Planet was the funniest, Dead Rising was the least funny and Eternal Sonata was long more than anything.

Pretty much the same here. I've enjoyed them all, but I just find that Lost Planet had some really great ideas/jokes, whereas the others, not so much. Of course, you are doing two fairly high-effort videos a week.

Want to see the pictures I've taken of it?

I really liked this episode. Mind you, not as epically funny due to the game actually being passable, but still. really well done. Also: Graham, those are YOUR 3d models? ZOMG amazing! Seriously...WIN.
