Unskippable: Ace Combat 6

DAMN YOU GRAHAM AND PAUL! DAMN YOU!

It was bound to happen to a game I really really love, but the opening cutscene is terrible.

That is possibly the worst opening cutscene I have ever seen. Wow.

Some day there needs to be a shirt for "Eyebrows and the Thugs."
~I'm probably not serious~
Oh and you can just call me Dave.
No need for the whole screen name.

The storyline for the Ace Combat games has never been top-tier, but of the ones I have played (all of them from AC04 onward), this one had the most annoying cutscenes. I'd rather listen to AC5's Chopper talk through all the missions than have to deal with the AC6 movies again.

Kudos for actually making the intro movie tolerable.

Good lord, that was a bad cinematic! Not only was the animation lackluster and the voice acting terrible, but it was soooo depressing. *shakes head* Good work by Paul and Graham, again.

I don't understand, how does this cutscene lead into shooting people with planes? >.< It just made me want to crawl into a ball, not shoot down fighter planes. *laughs*

The entire Japenese video game industry needs to go to film school. Funny.

Man, that cut scene was so depressing...

I can see that conference

"Alright employees, we need a way to hook our players into playing this game. Ideas?"

"Um, we show an action packed intro set in the sky with lots of fast planes weaving in and out of one another, with lots of carnage. It'll get the players hearts racing and itching to play."

"Hmm, that is a good idea Doug, but please, lets have an original thought please. Ahh, yes, severly glommy employee whose presence makes everyone in the room want to curl up in a ball and cry, you have an idea?"

"Yes. I do. What about showing a mundane setting, that has nothing to do with flying, turn into a terrible tragity. We can have the woman, right..."

That's awesome. Even without the reference, I would want that. It's like a really cool band T-shirt.

Hmm...

As we watched the shooting stars that night... "we all went blind." Day of the Triffids reference? 8)

Very funny commentary; truly terrible cinematic.

HA! oh man. that's pretty cool.

"The Thugs" could be done a bit better, but still. I'd buy that.

So wait, that's supposed to be a GOOD game?!?!? What the FUCK!?

I guess their logic is "Make them want to kill themselves, then supply them with a way to kill others." Doesn't really work like that.

"This woman won. She rules with an iron fist."

That line was both hilarious and not the joke I was expecting. Well done!

"Man, I really want to get these bastards for destroying the King's Bridge and killing that woman's daughter! So when do we get to-"

Camera pans to the twisted wreckage of the husband's fighter plane.

"...What the fu-"

End credits.

That was a fun game.

I don't know that it was actually much funnier than the already high standard set by previous Unskippables, but I LOL'd a lot more at this one. Particularly at "Too much Botox" and "I faked every wish."

The cut-scenes Paul and Graham choose for Unskippable are making me want to dig out my old Amstrad again, and watch the slow reveal of the loading screen picture for nine minutes while the game loads off tape. To think I used to find that annoying!

Yes, this was one of the funnier recent ones. Favorites:

Blandy and the Blandersons
Cute box of puppies
...seen here with a lens flare attacking his face

EDIT: I somehow managed to forget my favorite.

"this lady won, and ruled with an iron fist"
Well, hallo there.

I started playing AC6 only two days before that got posted to the escapist. The intro video can "go dance with angels." YOU SEE WHAT I DID THAR?

Me either. Dancing with angels in any other context than the mom used doesn't make sense. And they did it through the whole game too.
