Re: CheckPoint 188 - So Retro It's Awkward
It's fun about he cartrige system. I've often pitched my idea of a record-based gaming console, where the games are stored on vinyl records and read into the system using a record needle. Every time I've explained my idea to someone they always say they don't see the point of it, and I storm off aggravated that people don't understand my genius.

Honestly? I don't see the point of that.

Honestly, like, for real honest now, it would look cool and all, but I'd like to see how you store digital data in an analog system.

We do that all the time. Regular audio cassettes you'd use in a Walkman or boom box were also the main data storage for early personal computers.
Magnetic tape storage in general has being used since the earliest days of digital computers up to now, and with no end in sight.

Indeed; tapes can sometimes last a lot longer than many other kinds of storage out there, too.
As for how you'd store data on a vinyl... Perhaps it would encode the binary data into a waveform with a decent amount of redundancy to counteract things like degradation and end of side distortion.
