16 Skulls and a Burning Building
So your car melted. It could be worse. You could have been shot while arguing about philosophy.
HOLY SHIT GUYS! BEARS!
Re: 16 Skulls and a Burning Building
/rant As someone who studied architecture in college (but has done nothing else with it since), that architect is retarded.
I read an article that in the original design there were external sun shades to reduce the sun hitting the glass (and thus would solve this problem as well) but they were taken out as a way to save money. Even so he should have known that a curved surface like that would focus light like a mirror. its not like the window technology he was using was new, and every project I ever had to do involved checking sun angles (which are easily gotten if you look for 5 mins on the internet) and seeing how they interact with your building. Making sure you don't build death traps (or as a corollary death rays) is like Arch 101. /end rant
Overall loved the slow motion bullet dodging (even though I didnt watch the OC so I didn't get the joke). And I don't even want to know what is up with those skulls. why are they numbered? My best case scenario for that is that it's some medical school related box that got misplaced or something during cleaning or moving...

Ok quick question. What was with the mics this week? Instead of sounding like a normal feed dump it kinda sounded like a podcast.
Just curious.

Nor was film-school Matt, to explain exactly how wrong they were doing it.
One thing that wasn't wrong: Beej, Alex and Kathleen! Good combination.

Agreed. I think was my favourite non-special Dump in quite a while.

Ok that made me laugh.

(Bolded part for emphasis.)
Oh yes, the architect knows. He also designed a hotel in Las Vegas that had a concave surface, which (surprise!) did the same thing. I never studied architecture, but I know this guy is an idiot and needs to find a new signature design.
Also, I tweeted a link to this story to LRR, so I'm going to take credit for it appearing in Feed Dump.

Yeah there a little bit about that in the article I read; he tried to play it off like was something completely different but he should know that it isn't. When that building in LV is melting chairs and had to get the windows "retrofitted" with film to cut down on the glare you would think he would learn from the experience (concave mirrors how do they work?). I guess people will only learn when they get sued.

Designing supervillain lairs is a saturated field these days, it's hard to get your name out there when everybody and their nephew has their own ideas. This guy is just trying to get some publicity.

Re: 16 Skulls and a Burning Building
Maybe it is really all part of a world domination plot. It isn't that they all cause fires, it is that if he builds like 4 more, it will cause a super lazer and he can blackmail all the world's governments and if they don't pay him, he'll blow up the world!

Alright, I have a confession.
I have seen parodies of the slow-motion death with that music before, but I have no idea what it references.
Nevertheless, it was a very funny episode.

Re: 16 Skulls and a Burning Building
It references a scene in "The OC," where the song plays over a melodramatic shooting. It was then taken to the nth degree in a Saturday Night Live short where a bunch of people shoot each other, which leads to the music clip being played over and over and over.

Re: 16 Skulls and a Burning Building
"Russians do irony right!"
(sudden afterthought: I hope that poor guy got his beer, after all! )
Never watched the O.C., and haven't watched SNL in...decades, but I think the running gag was thorough enough to carry the funny on its own.
But I'm sure the (crappy) architect warned the future owners of the Walkie-Talkie, but they brushed off concerns as the situation would require that it be SUNNY in LONDON for those critical 2-3 weeks.
I'd also like to think Archimedes is going around in whatever afterlife there is, bugging the leaders of Syracuse, going "See?!? I TOLD you it would work! The principle was sound! If you could have just gotten me more men, and better mirrors than those shiny shields, we TOTALLY could have burned that fleet!"
As for the numbered (and ABANDONED) skulls, it seems Occam's Razor is cutting towards a medical school (or museum?) mistakenly throwing out an old exhibit...but I still hold out a hope for an anal-retentive grave robber that is compelled to catalog all his/her spoils...but ran out of storage space and had to dump part of their collection.
...besides, it could have been worse: the numbers on the skulls could have STARTED at like, twenty.
But BEEJ!
"Well, I only have one cat. <attempt to look innocent>"
"Mmmm...I love Prague in the autumn."
Gawd DAMN, man - the funny is so intense it HURTS!
Alex? You know what you did; not sure if to seek retribution or seek to reward you...something 'r', at least. ^_^
And yes, Kathleen, that hat DOES suit you quite well.
Now if you'll excuse me, after changing into a dry pair of britches, I gotta go watch a pile of 'mmm whatcha say' meme vids...whilst singing The Philosophers' Song...
...Rene Descartes was a drunken fart - "I drink therefore I am"...

Also, the skulls story made me wonder if there is now a Czech sequel to "8 Heads in a Duffel Bag" in the works?
