I roll my sense motivation check, and detect sarcasm.
If accuracy was the goal here, there would be a lot more flowery poetry and a lot less killing.
They could have made this as accurate as hell for all I know, but that doesn't make the story flow any better, which is a shame with all the Christian, Roman and Greek mythology they have to draw from. With an M rated game they could really have made some mature and interesting stories examining mythology, morals and poetic justice in Dante’s inferno. I know I'm expecting too much with that, but a little more creativity that gory cliff-notes would be good.
The commentary makes it all worthwhile though. And I have found some interesting Aesop and morals too, whether they were intentional or not.
"That guy said it's okay, isn't a defense with mortal sins"
""Till death do us part" is an important loophole in any vows"
"Self-mutilation and sewing is cool and manly"
"If someone gives you a lift and ask for fare, tear their head off"
"Whorenados may seem all sweet and spinning, but once you get in, it's all cherub scissorhands, QTEs and getting an endoscopy of your phallus symbol by a guy with a scythe and cross-gun."
