Could always go with more flavor-based locations for the openings, like Dekatia Academy or Abora Market

Code: Select all

Pyroblast {R} |Instant|
Choose one -- Counter target spell if it's blue; or destroy target
permanent if it's blue. · 5E-U,IA-C,MED-C,TD0

Code: Select all

Red Elemental Blast {R} |Instant|
Choose one -- Counter target blue spell; or destroy target
blue permanent. · 4E-C,A-C,B-C,ME4-U,RV-C,U-C

Pyroblast can be cast targeting any spell or permanent. When it resolves, if that thing isn't blue, then it has no effect, but it still resolves. Potentially relevant for Storm. Red Elemental Blast can only be cast targeting a blue spell or permanent, and it checks again when it resolves. If the target is not blue when it is resolving, it is countered by game rules and does not count for storm. In both cases, if the target is not blue when it goes to resolve, it will have no effect, it's just whether it can be cast anyway or not. So it could be said that Pyroblast is strictly better, because you can cast it for no effect if you really want to.

The difference between Red/Blue Elemental Blast and Pyro/Hydroblast is that the elemental blasts cannot target spells or permanents unless they are the named color (because "target blue/red spell" dictates which targets are legal), whereas Pyro/Hydroblast can be cast, and will resolve, but will do nothing. So for example, you can cast Pyroblast, targeting a creature, and then tap Tidal Visionary in response to make the creature blue. Or you could cast Pyroblast, targeting a white spell on the stack, and then cast Sleight of Mind and change Pyroblast's "Blue" text to "White," and the spell would be countered. I believe the chief use of these spells is in Storm archetypes where you can, if needed, simply cast them for no value to pump your storm count. In any case, the net effect is that Pyro/Hydro are strictly better, since they can be cast as long as there are permanents in play or spells on the stack.

I noticed the flip about halfway through, but didn't realize that's what it was. Nice spotting!

You'd think they'd have Vigilance though, since they keep activating their stream and/or video abilities almost every turn (day).

Why is James reaching up in the first few minutes of the video. Also that's how the big green d20 disappeared; where did it go?!?!?!

I admit, I just love the idea of the little kid calling Cameron by his full name, not just "Cam from Friday Nights" or something.

Adding on to the notes about Pyroblast/Red Elemental Blast, it's particularly relevant with the Theros block cause Pyroblast can target any Heroic creature.

That's how you put things into your inventory. You reach up off-screen.

I choose to believe that they hung themselves upside down from the ceiling for the filming.
