According to the guy at my local store, they have a box in a back room marked "do not open before pre-release"... I'm guessing the "... on pain of torture" bit is implied. He has no idea what's actually in the box, but he's hoping it's Helvault-shaped piñata containing all the prizes...

Myr Landshaper targets an enemy land, which is then Splintered. Dick move or dickest move?

Depends on whether they're playing mono, but still a pretty big hit.

Luckily that doesn't exile any other lands still on the field.

Though it would leave you with maybe 3 land for the rest of the game.

Depending on how soon it gets played? Surely if you end up with 6 or 7 lands you'd be well on the way to winning anyway.

Turn 4, actually. Turn 3 you play Landshaper, turn 4 you can tap it and pay the cost for Splinter.

Whilst we don't have any notions of what the block after Innistrad is going to be like, does anyone have plans for when Mirrodin finally rotates out?

I'm hoping there are some decent goblin cards in the next block, or else I may have to simply attribute my Steacy Special deck to the Extended format. Certainly it'll take a severe hit when Gaveleer, Spikeshot Elder, and Kuldotha Rebirth aren't available to Standard.

Naw, that's why you're running RG and adding a few red land destruction cards to get rid of the ones in play...

While waiting on beads the right colour to finish my poison counter, I made a human token.

Halfway through it, I thought I'd make it a human token counter, too. Not a lot of things create 1/1 human tokens, since they seem to be new with Dark ascension, but the thing that do seem to create a bunch. So now instead of having tokens all over the board you can have one, and count how many it represents with the beads I but inside of it.

I still have 24 human tokens left, too, so it's not like it used that many of them. If humans tokens came up more often than they actually do, I would be making more of it. As it is, I think my next token will be spirit.

The guys at LRR have revitalized a long dormant interest in Magic for me (long story short, I played it for like two months way back during the Invasion cycle). I've got Duels of the Planeswalker 2012 on my PS3 and I was wondering if anyone's tried out the DLC for it. If so, was it worth it?

Ooh, fancy. Having one card represent multiple tokens can be a pain sometimes, though... mainly that they don't necessarily all tap as a unit, so you need to keep track of which ones are tapped and which aren't. And still be able to separate out individual tokens to pu equipment/enchantment/counters on. But still, it's very nice, and I'll have to try making my own sometime.

Turn 1: Llanowar Elves
Turn 2: Liquimetal Coating
Turn 3: Splinter
If you got first go against a mono deck, they'll have 2 lands out, maybe three with acceleration. I really need to make this now, just to troll my friends. I'd probably never use it again after the first time, but the look on their faces when they first encounter it... totally worth it.

You can always use it as a single token, or use the beads to count bonuses. But last draft, despite the fact I had brought many, many tokens from home (at least a hundred or two of assorted tokens), people would use just one and put a die on it to tell how many there were, because apparently putting lots of tokens on the field was a hassle. So I figured this could fill a need.

Thanks, by the way :)

True, having just a token-plus-dice-for-count can mean less clutter, and in practise I'll usually do that too, just pointing out the problems it occasionally causes. But on the other hand, if I resolve a flashed-back Increasing Devotion, or an Army of the Damned, I'm going to want to have all those tokens out there as indivdual cards, to emphasise just how boned my opponent is, in a way that a single card with a pile of dice on it can't quite achieve.

That's true. That's actually why we decided with Sean that I would only make 3d version of tokens we had plenty of, so we can still have the option to put 10 different ones for instance.

Ideally I would make an electronic one, that would keep in mind how many tokens there are, how many are tapped, how many have summoning sickness and what counters they have.

Those tokens are awesome.

I generally treat my tokens as large masses, so that's a great idea.

Also:

An attempt at the Splinter combo

It uses Glissa to destroy any remaining permanents with liquimetal or myr landshaper, and myr battlesphere to win.

It doesn't work yet. I'm shit at making combo decks, and green is a strange combo colour...

EDIT: I modified the deck, gave it blue for Fabricate, and that helps ensure that no later than turn 5 I have destroyed any hope of their deck playing land.

You could always have two of those fancy tokens. Then you could adjust the numbers for how many are attacking and how many are staying back.

Oh man do I want to make that. Unfortunately I only own about 4 of those cards. Can I ask why the Verdant Catacombs? There aren't any swamps in there...

They help thin the deck out without slowing it down (a la terramorphic expanse), and increase the few card draw's chances of drawing a needed card.
