So I just played in my first 8-4 ever, and got first place! That was awesome. B/U tempo/unblockable aggro ftw.

The video itself was pretty awesome as well - huge buildup and unveiling the large frame with a tiny card in the centre

I was kinda expecting them to pull away the veil and NO CARD! followed by a scramble and someone crawling out of the back of the vehicle holding it and yelling "FOUND IT!"

That would've been really funny, actually.
In all honesty, I see that card getting a LOT of play. The U,Tap: Draw 2 cards is pretty damn nice.
I can't say much about the other ability, because my main (only) deck is the burn one from my previous post, and damage from burn spells far outweigh the mana cost, so it seems like a waste, really.

I love the boy, & I don't even play Magic, but the video is seriously cringe-worthy.

I thought it was hilarious. It's only an uncommon, it's not like there won't be 5,000,000 copies of that card in the wild in a few weeks.

I want that arsenal counter so much. The +/- chips would be great too, especially if they're metal like they seem to be.
I don't want the cards though. I hope some people resell their counters on ebay for less than 70 bucks.

Re: Magic: The Gathering: Whatcha mean, there's no thread ye
How is counterflux overload ability going to work? Is it like counter each spell you don't control for the turn, or is just there are multiple spells on the stack and you counter all of them that aren't yours?

Re: Magic: The Gathering: Whatcha mean, there's no thread ye
It would only counter whats on the stack, since it goes on the stack itself Its not an enchantment so it wouldnt counter things played after that stack all resolves.
The only thing I could think where it would be awesome would be like a Player 1 prey upon, Player 2 pump player 1 pump, player 2 counter, player 1 Counterflux overload or something like that.
But then it only costs 1 more to counter all their spells so wizards knows its not going to be a huge advantage to overload.

Wow, Return to Ravnica's looking to bring back the glory days of OP cards. I was all prepared to pump up my burn with the likes of:

Dreadbore is actually pretty fair, when you consider that it's Terminate, trading instant speed for hitting Planeswalkers (which comes up fairly rarely).
If you want to talk power creep, take a look at the four-mana 5/5 with upside, the three-mana 4/4 that's uncounterable and discard-protected, or the four mana uncounterable Wrath. Heck, they've gone and given flying to a creature that already sees play in Vintage.

The set is good but no way is it way to powerful, as mentioned Dreadbore is good but as a way to kill planeswalkers it is not a lot better than a card like Vampire Hexmage.
4 mana is still a lot to pay for an vanilla beater.
The elephant is good but the discard is rarely relevant the only reason Obstinate Baloth was relevant was because of Blightning, and we do not have a discard spell that powerfull now were you choose the targets.
As for the Owl it is more the fact that it is white than than it has flying that is relevant as the blue decks that play Cursecatcher does it because of its creature type.
The card i am most curious about is

On Judge's Familiar, while Cursecatcher sees Legacy play in Merfolk decks, it's actually played in Vintage as just an on-board Force Spike (because everyone in Vintage is playing instants and sorceries, they're just so good).
One thing I noticed about Ravnica is that there seems to be a cycle of guild-aligned "Can't be countered" spells (Abrupt Decay, Counterflux, Loxodon Smiter, Slaughter Games, and Supreme Verdict) all of which are good to excellent. With Mana Leak looking like it will rotate out, I wonder if there's some terrifying new counterspell that they're trying to fight, or if they've decided to start tacking on "can't be countered" in the same way that some cards end up with random "Protection from Blah" abilities.

Would that "terrifying new counterspell" be Syncopate? That seems to me like it could fill the Mana-Leak role, though it'll take a bit more of a mana investment unless your opponent taps out for the spell you're countering.
This is the first counterspell printed since I started playing that makes me want to try that kind of blue deck. (I started during Avacyn Restored and avoided buying 2012 stuff since 2013 was right on the horizon at the time.)

I would love to see what the artists have as directives for cards, I would be curious as to how the syncopate image formed.

Thats pretty descriptive, it gives a place, a thing, what the thing should be doing, what angle to look at the thing...

Re: Magic: The Gathering: Whatcha mean, there's no thread ye
I did forget about Terminate, honestly. God, what was up with THAT card? In any case, yeah, Deadbore doesn't seem too bad, especially because of the rarity.
I also see much promise with Blistercoil Weird. With a Qiucksilver Dagger, one can easily deathping the opponent, while filling up their hand with more burn to untap it. Also, with the +1/+1, it can either run over the opposition, or a nice target for Fling.
Also another good target for a Fling:
