Came third in a Modern event tonight. Final round was against Tron; topdecked my way to victory game one in the face of Karn, lost to triple Wurmcoil Engine game two and then curved out perfectly to victory in game three. Very pleased.

so no dual lands in M14 and a strong hint that theros will have sweet duals. def want to be running MAX 2 color decks in M14 limited. really itching for the full set to be spoiled so i can get in some drafts on cockatrice.

also if i am reading the new planeswalker rule correctly than jace memory adept is ridiculously broken if you have 2 in your hand. play the 1st one, mill 10. next turn, mill 10 again then play the second jace from hand and sac the first one and mill for another 10 with the new Jace.

thats going to be a legal play now right?????

I was really hoping for a block that would encourage mono colours. I'm a bit burned out on multi coloured stuff, as when I "quit" Magic, Ravnica block was still in standard, and when I returned, Return to Ravnica block had started.

It was a 6 year break, but it doesn't feel like it, and I'm sick of needing to be playing 3 colours, with the associated $150 land set.

With no duals in M14, it does seem to be leaning that way though. I'm hoping for only allied duals of some kind in Theros. Get back to the roots of the colour pie.

ok then i really have to say WHAT THE FUCK WOTC. was someone asleep at the wheel when you decided to reprint Jace memory adept. i can see standard being totally miserable against control post M14. i can see decks with nothing but counter spells, 4 jaces and 4 Aetherlings and its going to be miserable to play against.

Just play aggro and punch things in the face. Green seems to be getting some anti control stuff, like the hexproof guy who gets bigger if they cast blue or black spells on your turn. Or Skylasher. Or Cavern of Souls. Or Voice of Resurgence (if you can afford them).

A nice Red Deck Wins gets online well before control can stabilise as well.

overall this defiantly looks like a very strong set for most archetypes. Lots for the lifegain deck, lots for control, lots for agro, lots for big stompy, some nice burn.

Has it actually been confirmed that there won't be dual lands in M14? From what I can see the set hasn't been fully spoiled yet and I can't find anything confirming or denying dual lands...

That said, it doesn't matter terribly deeply to me; my most competitive standard deck right now is mono-coloured, and I don't really like to play more than 2 colours at the best of times.

As much as I hate Jace, Memory Adept (and I do) I don't think it's really that big a deal. Honestly he didn't get a tonne of play in my experiment in M13 compared to Taimyo or little Lilly. He's a powerful Mill engine but there's so much aggro in the format right now that going "Jace, pass" on turn 5 is practically a death sentence against a lot of decks

I suspect that it is because RTR had SO MUCH mana fixing, so no need.

Interesting. That means that, at least until some kind of hypothetical fixing comes in with Theros, the opposed colour combinations will have MORE fixing than the allied colour combinations. That's going to be a thing.

Not really... The enemy-coloured taplands in ISD and the allied-coloured taplands in M13 will be rotating out together, and we'll be left with just the RTR block fixing (which is obviously equally spread across the guilds) and whatever THS has.

It's going to be weird when ISD rotates. I only started playing Magic when Avacyn was new (immediately falling in love with Innistrad and promptly buying an entire box of that set), so up until now every card I've owned has been standard legal. It always gave me kind of a feeling of pride that I was running standard decks (and sometimes still winning) against my kitchen table group that was often using old busted multi-block combo stuff, and now most of my collection will be rotating out.

I still love that block though, so I'll probably just modify most of the decks from current standard to ISD Block instead. Seems like the kind of thing that'll be fun, maybe I'll even set up a deck for each allied color pair and corresponding tribal theme. What do y'all normally do with cards once they rotate out? This whole thing is new to me!

I keep playing with them. Format really doesn't matter except
a) in tournaments
b) to keep power levels even at your kitchen table group,

and B depends on what you all have already. If your decks are competitive in your playgroup, keep playing them.

Unless you play in tournaments somewhere, don't worry about it. If you do, or feel like you might ever want to, keep in mind that those cards will still be legal in formats other than Standard. (There's one store near me that runs weekly Extended tournaments, for instance.)

I checked it on Google maps and it says you only live about 2 inches away so I dont see what the problem is. The drive out here to my parents house was 3 inches and that only took about three and a half hours.
