Bah. Ruin my fun. Alright fine I suppose it's an Archon of Justice with an extra ETB exile stapled to it.

-_-

*edit*

Spear of Heliod: Glorious Anthem is back with unlimited (slightly weakened) Avenging Arrows stapled to it.

Yes please.

*edit*

Also noticed that Hero's Downfall is a rare. Clearly they're aiming this for constructed play.

ashen rider + rescue from the underworld is going to be absurd.

hero's downfall is nice.

boon satyr is ok in limited

hythonia the cruel might see play if mono black control is competitive.

spear of heliod is not amazing. always needing to keep 1WW open will be a hinderance to anything but mono white.

So, it's Angel of Despair which, for one more mana, turns from "destroy one thing" to "exile two things"...

Seems fair. Angel of Despair was pretty weak anyway, it could use the power boost.

Boon Satyr isn't bad. It's a 4/2 for 3, which is a pretty solid combination by itself. Flash added on just makes it better. Throw it down if you need a surpise blocker. Or, if you have 2 extra mana, it can act as a combat trick. It's an instant-speed +4/+2 enchantment that turns into a creature if things go south. I actually think it's one of the better Bestow cards we've seen so far.

I really like Spear. I feel it also goes well in Selesnya (or even general G/W). Turn 4, you likely want to hold up mana for Advent Of The Wurm anyways (since it's honestly one of the best 4-drop spells that'll be around in my opinion). It presents another option. And I'm a fan of static buffs myself. My only real issue with it is that it's going to be easy to remove.

The step up from 7 to 8 isn't insignificant, but then the decks that are going to play it aren't exactly pressed for time. I like it a lot.

i am glad they at least made it enter the battlefield + dies instead of enters + leaves the battlefield.

its going to be a nightmare card for some decks to deal with.

yeah thats the other reason i dont like it, everyone will be maindecking enchantment hate now so there will be games when you play this and it gets removed before you can use the ability.

boon is nice but i just dont see it getting played outside of limited. but i am very happy taking it highly there.

To be fair, that's along the same lines of 'it dies to Doom Blade' in terms of argument. The fact that enchantment hate is going to be played maindeck most likely doesn't really hurt it as much, especially since not all colors have hate for enchantments or artifacts. It dies to removal, but that just means you don't have to worry about another enchantment being destroyed.

I don't think it'll see serious competitive play. But I think it could see at least local play, and might even make some lists depending on a few factors. It's an enchantment, creature, it's decent on it's own, it can pump something, and it's all done at instant-speed. This means that I know I'll happily throw it into my enchantment-based deck.

I have seen angel of despair played in multiple legacy decks and none of them payed for it so this can take its place there

Or, to not have to use two rares... someone is going to sacrifice an Ashen Rider to Rescue from the Underworld at some point in a draft.

Glorious Anthem was plenty playable. The spear is nothing but upside compared to it. I'll be shocked if it doesn't see play.

I think Kap's point is saying something "dies to enchantment removal" isn't really different than saying that any given creature "dies to Doom Blade"

I'm not seeing all the enchantment removal I KNOW has to be in this set. It's just not been spoiled yet, right?

Enchantment and artifact removal is often at the common and uncommon slots because of limited, and commons & uncommons are often spoiled in a bunch the day the full spoiler goes up because they are not as interesting as the rare mythics to write an article about unless they are a cycle like the hosers or nymphs

(We already know all the mythics, 70% of rares, 36% Uncommon and 39% common)

I wonder if they'll prevent Paraselene from rotating. Or maybe 3 mana for destroy all enchantments with bonus life gain would be too good...

I'd wager against an enchantment wrath effect, but it's certainly possible. I'd expect it to be rare if they do print it though, lest limited get retarded

I doubt we'd see Paraselene coming back. It seems like it'd be a major card against W/G, which seems to be the most enchantment-X heavy so far.

So I was playing a phantom sealed event, and the slivers were just there so I ran 4 color Slivers.

Thorn Caster(ping)
Bonescythe(doublestrike)
Syphon(black)
Megantic (+3)
2 X Predatory (+1)
2 X Manawift (Mana)
2 Striking (Frist strike)
3 X Sentinal (vigilance)
1 Hive strings
The rest of the deck was 3/3 green beast, 4/4 Green beast, Advocate of the beast, Green Doomblade, Giant Spider, Pacifism, Black Deadly Recluse, Griffin Sentinel, Serra Angel, Verdant Haven. I ran 16 land 8 green, 7 white, 1 swamp.

I sided a little bit to add flyer protection in game two once, I won 6-0 and every match was 1 game slivers come out to play, other game no slivers. My opponent in match two after getting obliterated by dream curve of slivers said "wow, that should be your main deck, you shouldnt have to side into it"

*snerk* I've had limited games like that trying for Slivers where they just didn't come out even though half the deck was made of them.

I think he's fine on his own. A 2/1 human for 1? That's relevant, especially given things like the 1/1 horse that can give him flying. He also plays well with Xathrid Necromancer.
