New objective: Kill myself with a combination of Backup Plan and Advantageous Proclamations before the game even starts.

I'm reading through the release notes for Conspiracy (since this seems like something that there has to be at least one person at the table who's read up on it to make sure it goes smoothly). I got to Lore Seeker's entry, and found something that made me just bust out laughing.

If you use Agent of Acquisitions to draft a booster pack containing Lore Seeker, and you wish to add a booster pack to the draft, first draft each remaining card from the Lore Seeker booster pack. Then open the new booster pack. You may look at the cards in that pack, but you can't draft any cards from it. You'll pass the new booster pack as normal. That was very generous of you.

The last part just got me, and I'm not sure why.

Edit: And another one for Power Play:

If you have Power Play but aren't the starting player (because another player also had Power Play), your place in the turn order is unaffected. If you're sitting to the right of the starting player, you're going last. Not all power plays bear fruit.

I would love to be the guy who Agent of Acquisitions a Lore Seeker and gives everyone a booster.

Also, as a friend pointed out to me, both Phage the Untouchable and Stifle are in this set. I have to live the dream now.

But does the set have any way to cheat Phage into play so you can stifle her trigger?

Also, the true troll drafts agent of acquisitions, uses it on a Lore Seeker pack... and then passes a pack of Homelands.

Cards that throw Phage onto the battlefield from not-your-hand (usually from the graveyard):

Reya Dawnbringer
Unhallowed Pact (close enough)
Victimize
Gamekeeper (library to battlefield)
Extract from Darkness
Grenzo, Dungeon Warden (if you manage to make him a 7/7 or more)
Marchesa, the Black Rose

I don't recall if, by the rules of Magic, Æther Searcher would cast the card you searched for from your library if that's where you found the card, but I believe that is the case. If so, if you somehow manage to draft combo Æther Searcher into Phage then that is also an option.

Glimmerpoint Stag and Brago, King Eternal can flicker Phage if you want for extra flavor.

I can just imagine someone else using Lore Seeker, while you have Agent of Acquisitions drafted.

...I've come up with the perfect, flawless, will always happen if you plan for it plan with Conspiracy. P1P1 Worldknit. Then, draft a Agent of Acquisitions. Then, draft Lore Seeker, getting a Journey pack. Open a god pack. Take the entire pack and play it.

You win. I don't care what else happens, you win.

That sounds entirely reasonable, and certainly something you should plan for.

I like the worldknit/agent/lore seeker plan, but it needs some work.
On a somewhat related note, tournament packs were essentially just fat boosters... right?

I think at large it's fine, dropping a turn 3 Karn is tough to beat.

In your own local meta, only you can judge that, but just know that players can sideboard to beat you once you're expected.

Man maybe I'll try putting together modern infect. Looks cheap if you're willing to be a little sketchier on your land base.

The infect deck I use (or proxy, rather) is the one that made it to the top 8 at GP Antwerp that goes BUG and is full of the usual goodies you would expect. The only big expensive cards are Noble Hierarch and the Zendikar fetchlands, so it's pretty good price-wise compared to most other decks. It's also super fun.

I guess it shows my priorities that I have a $300 standard deck and a $5 modern deck, but I have a lot of fun with budget goblins. So funny to watch it kick tron to the curb (but dies to Melira pod so hard, so fair's fair...)

4 or 5 cards from my Standard deck (Dredge) would be worth more than my whole modern deck (Borderpost Restore Balance), and my standard deck is one of the cheaper ones.

In fact, I trade for my whole Modern deck (80+ cards) for 4 cards.

I guess it all depends on what you enjoy, really. I have 3 Standards - B/R Minotaur, Naya Sliver, and Izzet burn - 2 Modern - Red burn and Green beef - but I have six Commander decks. Granted, they're 5 precons, but I do have a 99% completed Bosh, and I'm planning on making Sliver, Karona, possible Green beef and Black vampire later on. I love Slivers, and I've had that Modern burn in some form since high school, so those two, I'll never part with. The others? Eh.

As a comparison, I have 2 standards and 3 commander decks. But the commander decks are all slightly modded precons. The 2 standard decks should likely come apart. The only reason I don't play standard anymore. I guess I just hold onto them because I like both decks. But I just play limited. LIMITED.

Also, who came up with the phrase "Girlfriend Draft" and how did they not realize that it's very offensive? Like... there's GOTTA be a better name for it that doesn't have such an implication.

It's basically when you get someone who knows NOTHING about Magic to draft for you. For the person who came up with it, I guess it was their girlfriend. Otherwise there's really no reason for the name. I dunno, maybe it just seems really bad to call it that to me.

I can kind of see where the name comes from; I know a lot of people who play magic with partners that don't or who are much less invested in it. And I guess if the magic community is predominately male (which it is right now) I can see how the term came about. I kind of hate it, though, because it feeds into the whole "girls can't magic" thing.

That's the problem with it. I can understand the source to a degree. But there HAS to be a better name. Even just a more gender-neutral form it. Like maybe "newbie draft" or "Draftless Draft." I just feel like there has to be something better to call it. Because it does feed into the idea that girls can't play magic, and that's a bad thing.
