I just lost in round 1 to, pretty much, just a Duskmantle Seer, Devour Flesh, and Death's Approach.

With THIS deck

Image

-_- he got that freaking seer online turn 4 games 1 and 3 and then it was just game over.

Man that pisses me off to have put together such a nice deck that, in the one game I played first performed AMAZINGLY and just get every creature I played immediately removed.

4 Caverns, 4 reckoners, 4 huntmasters, 2 aurelias, 2 domri's and 12 shocks add up pretty fast, on top of the smaller things and the foils/promos.

That legacy deck I posted is worth about 2 Grand. The main reason I'm willing to invest in legacy is because the cards retain value (and actually slowly appreciate in value). Actually, I'm gonna price it right now, just because I've never actually priced it.

EDIT: So, it comes out to 2046 dollars, and it's not even finished yet, lol.

Deck list and average card prices:
Main Deck:
3 Jace, the Mind Sculptor (101 ea = 303)
1 Elspeth, Knight, Errant (27)

4 Stoneforge Mystic (9 ea = 36)
4 Snapcaster Mage (23 ea = 92)
1 Vendilion Clique (49)

4 Brainstorm (1.50 ea = 6)
1 Ponder (1)
4 Swords to Plowshares (4 ea = 16)
4 Force of Will (67 ea = 268)
3 Counterspell (1.33 ea = 4)
1 Supreme Verdict (foil) (9)
2 Spell Pierce (1 ea = 2)
2 Daze (3 ea = 6)

1 Engineered Explosives (16)
1 Batterskull (9)
1 Umezawa's Jitte (GP Promo) (30)

3 Tundra (112 ea = 336)
1 Underground Sea (140)
3 Flooded Strand (50 ea = 150)
1 Polluted Delta (65)
1 Karakas (Judge Promo) (90)
2 Mishra's Factory (3 ea = 6)
1 Academy Ruins (12)
4 Island (2 foil ZEN full art, 2 Unhinged) (40 combined)
2 Plains (1 ZEN full art, 1 Unhinged) (6 combined)
2 Scalding Tarn (34 ea = 68)
3 Marsh Flats (23 = 69)

Sideboard:
2 Thopter Foundry (.70 ea = 1.40)
1 Sword of the Meek (1.60)
1 Sword of Feast and Famine (12.50)
1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor (101)
1 Mindbreak Trap (4)
1 Flusterstorm (13)
1 Crucible of Worlds (24)
2 Circle of Protection: Red (.50)
3 Surgical Extraction (New Phyrexia Buy-a-box promos) (7 ea = 21)
1 Detention Sphere (foil) (10)
1 Pithing Needle (1)

So, I was watching some Star City coverage of a recent Legacy event, and one of the players was with Combo Elves. In game 2, he played a Llanowar Elves and one of the commentators was like, "Ah, War On All."

I've been playing Magic since 1995, and today is the first time I made that connection. I mean, it's like my favorite card, and I never noticed that until now. I feel... slow.

Any other delayed Magic revelations out there?

I am so stoked for additional Friday Nights. Joy is the intersection between LRR and MTG.

Also yay my Simic deck arrived. Now if only I didn't have a paper due Monday and could go to FNM with it.

First I read Del's quote, then I read this, then I clocked my deck, ($50.00 if the were all NM condition) then I broke down crying on the floor.

I feel you. I meant I was uncomfortable because I felt like that was too much to spend on a magic deck. Prior to this one the deck I was using couldn't have been worth more than 50. Infact the one I just ordered isn't if you exclude the non-basic lands I ordered for it.

It's worth noting I only actually *spent* 50$ on singles for that deck, the rest I either already had or traded for with stuff from my legacy binders. Doesn't change the fact that it is ridiculously expensive for a deck. After all, the person that got first on gameday where I was did it with a deck that cost maybe 40$ mainboard (a hyperaggressive G/w aggro deck with youngwolves, strangleroot geists, rancors, etc)

If I feel that i have spend alot of money on a deck i just think about a player that I play with that last year decided that his land.dec (That is a deck that normally cost around $2500) should be Foil/ original printing of cards.
Then I think well at least i have not spend that much money

I'm a horrible person - it is now official.

Deck was a rather mediocre red/white deck... which I wouldn't describe as a "Boros" deck, as it didn't really deserve the title. Only 4 creatures that cost 2 or less, and all of those came from the last pack. The two cards in that picture were really my only "great" cards, the rest was all sort of mediocre, durdley gunk. Still somehow managed to go 3-1, due to opponents having terrible luck with their draws (and, in one case, being beaten down, one turn away from losing, and topdecking the single piece of burn in my deck for the win). Go me.

My deck clocks in at a bit over $200, but that's not exactly indicative of how much I spent on it. The money cards are 3 boros reckoners and 2 bonfire of the damned (and a handful of other <$10 rares), but those I pulled from boosters or traded things that I pulled from boosters for them.

I also rarely buy boosters - I pay to enter tournaments (limited or constructed) and pick up most of my cards that way.

OMG guys I just used the second ability on Gruul Charm (gain control of target permanent you own) in a limited game! Had a Burst of Strength to follow up and completely ruin his attack :)

It was awesome.

Speaking of limited, I went first in a draft today. Mind you, there were only six people, but still. I'm happy with how I did it too. I managed to build a Simic deck that out-aggro'd Boros. The decklist was:

2 Rapid Hybridizations
2 Hands of Binding
1 Verdant haven
1 Urban Evolution (in honor of LRR since it was their reveal card)
1 Scab-Clam Charger
1 Miming Slime
1 Disciple of the Old Ways
1 Drakewing Krasis
1 Deathcult Rogue
1 Simic Charm
1 Zameck Guildmage
1 Keymaster Rogue
2 Slaughterhorn
1 Frilled Occulus
1 AEtherize
1 Ghor-Clam Rampager
1 Bigger Pig
1 Stolen Identity
1 Skarrg Goliath
1 Realmwright
1 Simic Guildgate
1 Gruul Guildgate
7 Islands
6 Forests
2 Mountains

The only games I lost, I lose due to being mana-flooded or mana-screwed. I went up against two pretty good Boros decks, both of which had some good pulls, and managed to win both. Overall the matches went pretty well.

Edit: So my pack-1-pick-1 was Realmwright. I figured he could provide mana fixing if I went with three colors (he never did). Second pick for the first pack? Stolen Identity, an underrated card that made me realise I needed to pick up some unblockable (only got 2). Third pick was Skarrg Goliath. This was still pack one. "Well, I guess I'm going Simic then..." I realized. The fact that Skarrg Goliath AND Stolen Identity were both passed over when both are major bombs in limited is beyond me. Well, I knew my friend (who was on my right) went in intenting to play Boros, as did the other boros player next to him if I had to guess. A foolish choice I think since the two of them provided me with some major firepower.

Hell, I last-picked a Bane-Alley Broker over a land at the end of a pack. That should tell you about the people I was playing with.
