From the Gatherer forums:
Avacyn = Mojojojo.
Gisela = Blossom.
Sigarda = Buttercup.
Bruna = Bubbles.
Griselbrand = Him.
Sorin = The Professor.
Coincidence?

For an AVR white angel deck, would splashing green for ramp (see! I knows big words! ) be a good idea?

Re: Magic: The Gathering: Whatcha mean, there's no thread ye
So, quick MTGO story time.
I did a swiss draft last night, where I drafted a white deck splash green. I saw two Lost in the Woods go by, one after another.
Won game 1. Game 2, first round I play a blue/black deck, win game 1. Game two, she goes first, plays forest, go. I get some of my beats down, and she just forest, goes. She eventually gets down Lost in the Woods. I attack, at this point for about 6. All forests. A few turns later, she gets her other Lost in the Woods on the table.
I look at my library size and then at the opponents, I have one less card than her. There's no way I can damage her, so she's going to deck me.
Well, if she wants to win, she's going to have to earn it.
I drop every creature I get, including a bunch of tokens. I set up my client to auto pass Lost in the Woods triggers. Every turn she's having to double click to add the LitW trigger 10, then 16, then 30, then 40 times. She's also spending much more of her clock double clicking so I'm getting a huge time advantage for game 3.
We talked afterwards, I congratulated her for the awesome play, she said my carpel tunnel counter strat almost paid off near the end. I called it good practice for Diablo 3. Some might see it as a dick move, I thought it was something awesome, something I could see Graham and/or James doing.
(I won game 3, btw, she went back to his blue black deck)

I'm working on a deck with 4 Avacyn's Pilgrim and 4 Birds of Paradise that could theoretically drop Sigarda on turn 3. Or you could really go for broke, run Somberwald Sage, and try to get Avacyn out turn four. It will almost never happen, but when it does, look out!

I believe the phrase you are looking for is "When it does, wow"
And I was thinking Rampant Growth and some of the AVR green stuff that lets you put lands out. I could use Llanowar Elves but I kind of want to keep to the theme of AVR. Abundant Growth definitely so a forest can pull double duty.
Only thing is I'd have a lot of green mana lying around not being used when the angels come out. Maybe useful for sacing though.

Avacyn being Mojojojo makes no sense at all.
Griselbrand is obviously Mojo.

Avacyn would be the original creation, much like Mojo to the Professor (he was a lab monkey beforehand), followed by Gisela, Sigarda, and Bruna. Griselbrand is unassociated but definably Satanic in the assortment, hence Him.

Now that I think about it, I wanted to channel Artie Ziff from the Simpsons. "But when it does, HELLO!"
Anyway, I am thinking if you're already in GW, Gavony Township at least makes your mana dorks bigger for attacking. Also, not AVR themed, but Myr Superion gets pretty good in a deck full of mana critters.

Why not use Increasing Savagery for lots of +1/+1 counters then?Geoff_B wrote:I believe the phrase you are looking for is "When it does, wow"

Re: Magic: The Gathering: Whatcha mean, there's no thread ye
I'll see how the limit goes. I want to stick to 60 cards and I usually end up going way over that because I find something else.
Actually, moving on to the story for a moment, where does the story come from? I've read in the gatherer comments that Avacyn is a creation of Sorin Markov and can therefore not be seen as entirely good. Where does that come from? Indeed where does any of the story come from?

Re: Magic: The Gathering: Whatcha mean, there's no thread ye
Avacyn was created by Sorin as protector of Innistrad - her role is to keep balance between the forces of light and dark on the plane. Basically, her job is to keep demons at bay.
She has only white in her mana cost - this indicates that she is strictly a "good guy" in this block. She is wholly uncorrupted by the evil on this plane.
I'm taking this from the commentary of the Dev team in their AVR panel at PAX East. I had thought, pre-reveal, that she was goign to be black/white, given thenature of Sorin, but no, her role is solely protector, not destoryer, and this is evidenced by the flavour of the card.

I know they used to, and I think they still do.Geoff_B wrote:Do the stories of blocks get released as books at all?
The tidbit about Avacyn being a creation of Sorin was listed in the Player's Handbook in Innistrad or Dark Ascension. I think it was the Innistrad book.
Avacyn was created as a collection of wards to protect the humans from the excess of the vampire's powers. Prayers to Avacyn were used as a method to continually recharge the wards. It was the only system that Sorin could think of that would be self sustaining, unless Avacyn went a little bit overboard, and got herself locked in the Helvault.

They have novels and comics. Not sure about the latest blocks though.

Does anybody know of a decent free database program that can be used to keep track of what magic cards you have and how many? I tried one someone else recommended (I forget what it was called) but the interface was crap and data input took forever. I can't be the only person that wants to merge their love of magic with their slightly obsessive information management habits! Especially since I'm under orders from Trixy to ask this. She says hi btw.

Two things,
After selling most of the cards from my Avasyn box and the stuff I got just to get packs to make the Bump packs for pax east. I came up with these numbers.
Total spent on box, events, and boosters, $186
Total gained from sale of cards at various times 163.50
Total value of cards left $77 (retail) plus 1 zombie dice game that my wife picked out while I was selling tonight.
I have played in 4 events, built two decks one decent mono red vamp deck and 1 soulbound blue green red. And I my overall spent is about $0 I may even be ahead.
I dont see why people complain that magic is so expensive.
Secondly, I was playing MTGO tonight with my black vamp agro control, against a Blue green Elf control. He said GG three times before he attacked only to get bumped by something and say "or not" The third time he said it I said "You are right this IS a good game, I really look forward to seeing how it turns out in a few more turns"
I had 2 life he had 12 at that point.
I won... He said I was lucky and left on the declare blocker of what would be his death.

Im not sure exactly what you are looking for or fully how it works but TCG has a collection tracker.

Card Vault isn't free ($30), but it is pretty comprehensive and simple to use and you get two licenses so if you can split the costs with a mate it's probably worth it.

Their one is more for the purposes of buying/selling/trading, I'm more after something that'd be helpful during deck building, so I could do a search for say green instants and immediately see what I have and how many. Thanks though.

That one looks crazy good. $30 though... I'll probably keep looking, but I might go back to it if nothing decent shows up. Thanks!
