I think the problem, at least for me, was that it feels so... high-stakes. Packs are so expensive that it's hard to not want to get something valuable from it. Plus, if you don't already know the cards (which would involve learning them all first or knowing them all already), it's kind of hard to draft them. I consider myself fairly good at drafting, and my only Modern Master draft went VERY poorly.

That might be just me though.

I don't want to draft MM for that exact reason (in addition to having no interest in Modern).

It sounds like it would be more fun to do as LRR mentioned and draft with someone else's box, where they get to keep the cards.

How long do the MM queues last for? I'd like to get in for at least one draft.

Regarding the main archetypes, I see it as:

U/R Storm
Modular+Affinity
G/R Suspend
B/U Faeries
R/B Goblins
G Thalid Sapolings
WUBRG Sunburst+Domain
etc. (and every combination in between)

Unfortunately setting up the archetype is just a matter of luck in some cases. Not forgetting to mention that the instance of rare drafting is more prevalent here, making those key archetype cards just a little bit harder to see wheel.

Just my thoughts.

This was what will be my final Modern Masters draft on MTGO, at least real one as I might try a Phantom or two. It started out trying to be a Domain or 5-color good things deck but that wasn't really working so I just went into a straight Green/Black. The few fixers were nice though given some early double color cards. Won the first round against Giants, lost the second to Blue/Green suspend or better put lost to Meloku, and won the third against a pretty sick Thallids deck with Doubling Season.

I really enjoy the format and it was a nice change of pace from DGR, and it was nice to win a bit again, I was not doing so hot with the Maze of late.

The set I've had the most fun in were the Shadowmoor Eventide drafts they had a while back. I really liked the tribal focus and rare drafting was basically an non-issue.

DGR has not been my forte and has been a tad boring at times. The most fun I had in one was going balls to the wall G/R aggression with combat buffs.

The problem with that is that it's very easy to get cut off from all of those types. During my draft, I ended up trying to go fairies pack one. I got cut off from those, so I went goblins pack 2. Got cut off from both of those, and ended up with a few artifact things... and not a single bomb among all of them.

I tried to watch Kenji Stream MM, but it was just "Magic Magic First strike Magic Magic" followed by "CANADA CANADA CANADA IM GRAHAM THIS IS HOW I TALK"

I understand how cards work but I dont get all this storm, shock, "agro red splash jund with a side order of Ice HA HA HA" talk. Its the same as cube.

them: "Wow this card is bonkers!"
ME: "Why?"
Them: "Because its the Ice Mage of Pirate bay"
me: "but the name on the card is Desert Skiff Runner its a 2/2 for 7 with progresive infecting, skyswing and dance"
Them: "EXACTLY! its so broken, you just dont get it"
Me: "Nope thats why I said "WHY?"

The format might have ended up like cube for me where I do end up not understanding a lot of the archetypes and watching people draft it doing a lot of "wait why is that card so insane?" moments. However I think both the Limited Resources episode about it, as well as the set review videos from The Magic Show, prevented that. Even with a lot of cards I didn't really know going in, that information really had me going into the set being fairly comfortable with it.

Why I dislike Modern Masters drafts...

This is Kenji's (Twitch: numotthenummy) deck from earlier. This is an amazing deck. Astounding. He lost in round 1. The variance in how any one game of this format goes is so far beyond any regular format

I bought some Modern Masters boosters. Now I can't decide to open them or leave them alone. I think I'll crack all but one.

Yes. Save a pack for a super rainy day.

I know of only one store near my area that didn't sell out of there stock before they even received it. And thus is selling packs. But my main question is how much are they retailing around everyone else because at this store (known for jacking up prices) they are going for 12 per pack.

Here (Aus) it is also ~12, 2x cost of a regular booster but I've see others charge 14. Lucky to get it for 10, can settle for 12.

14 damn. I guess that makes me feel a little better about grabbing a pack for 12.

Yea, they were $10 around me, but another shop started selling them for $12 too. I think that's going to be the 'expected price' before long. :/

It's a shame, but it can't really be helped. At least two of the guys at my LGS bought boxes so I will be lucky enough to at least draft a couple of times with it.

Did you play inspiration and prayed for a plains to play out the aristocrat?

If he were to get that plains, there could be a possibility that it could turn around. (though I am unaware of content in each deck and a 21 point life swing is a major improbability).

Why would you pass two Unflinching courage and then a armed and dangerous?

and then a first blade, and then a punish the enemy? I had a scab clan giant WHEEL.

I've had a Viashino Firstblade as my 14th pick in a DGR draft. The only thing not picked was the land.
