I just lost to a jeski player who was running two banners, and three swift kicks, and 4 counterspells main board.

They got two Bloodfire Experts and two Jeskai Students down which stalled me with them on 1 life.

Then swift kicked my abzan guide, I feat of resistance red, then they cast TWO MORE!

Duckay wrote:Could you possibly show us the list? It's possible that with the changes to standard, you'd be better off making a sideways substitution for the giant growth (i.e. something other than a pump spell) but it would be helpful to see what the deck presently looks like.

Sure!

4x Aspect Of Hydra
4x Elvish Mystic
4x Hero Of Leina Tower
4x Giant Growth
4x Swordwise Centaur
4x Kalonian Tusker
3x Boon Satyr
2x Courser Of Kruphix
3x Nylea
3x Bow Of Nylea
2x Arbor Colossus
1x Genesis Hydra
1x Chord Of Calling
1x Polukranos

17x Forest
3x Nykthos

I get flooded. And with Tusker it really helps me get devotion. When it rotated out it really fucked me.

Maybe a one of Hydra Broodmaster? They're really good for soaking up the extra mana.

For the 2 devotion slot, you could replace the tusker with Bassara Tower Archer - it's the only other card at GG in standard, and will probably be the only one, even when Fate Reforged comes out (has to draft well with KTK).

Your choices at 1G aren't too great either.

Eh fuck it. I'll just stop playing Standard. I don't want to make a whole new deck. I guess I'll just stick to drafting for a while.

I am so happy that Modern Masters is back on Magic Online at the moment. So happy.

You know, I never got to draft that. Well, once, but I draft giants terribly.
You know what's a terrible turn 3 play (when you have no lands in hand)? Countryside Crusher.
You know what's worse? Getting it pacified.

I'm sorry to hear that, man. I guess I can't talk, because I just 3-0ed an event with Rebels. Also picked up a foil Blood Moon, because I will trade having a useful pack 2 pick 1 for the monetary value of Blood Moon.

Oh, I actually won that game, and that match, but overall my draft went pretty bad.

I might have to try forcing storm this time around.

Felt real dirty playing MMA, Thallids (fungus) being my favorite tribe of creatures (with Myr a close 2nd) and got:

Doubling Season
Elspeth, Knight-Errant
E. Witness.

This ensued. (collapsed for giant image).

You know, talking about stuff about the Khans story with people on Reddit, I thought of something. Given that this set involves changing timelines, I think it'd be really neat if M16 ended up dealing with the blowback that might come from that change. Kind of like a Core Set version of Time Spiral or something. Basically a set that lets everyone know how the Magic multiverse changed from Ugin being unkilled.

That's an interesting idea. M13 was the one that featured Nicol Bolas as a Planeswalker. If it's Bolas who dies and Ugin who lives, maybe M16 could be a sort of timeshifted version of M13?

If control magic were modern legal, would it be playable? Would it be good?

Maybe? The main creature threats (Delver of Secrets, Tarmogoyf) are already handled by Threads of Disloyalty.

Just won my first cube draft. And by first I mean the first I've done. This was the deck:

I think I managed to Dark Ritual turn 1 or 2 four games. Three of them were for a turn-2 Desecration Demon. The last game was a major standstill between me and my opponent. He had Voice, 4 Lingering Soul tokens, Prime-time, Wolfir bonded with an Avacyn's Pilgrim, Thrun, and the 0/5 that you can ramp with. What did I have that could stand up to that, you may ask?

An army of pack-rat tokens. I ended up with 7 total I believe. I also had the 2/2 that made a 1/1 deathtouch snake when you didn't have snakes. I also ended up killing Wolfir by swinging in to kill his Karn(!) when he -3'd it to get rid of my Pherxian Obliterator and using the 3 -1/-1 counters guy..

The game would have ended MUCH earlier, if not for the fact that I couldn't hit land. I was at 4-5 lands most of the game. Which meant 1 rat a turn. Worse yet, I was sitting on Sheolded in my hand for most of the game. Then, I drew a land and played it. Next turn, he turned one of my rats into a basic forest. The turn after that... I slam a swamp I drew and then slam down Griselbrand. Next turn, draw 7, play a swamp (should have played the Cradle I had in hand, but was too excite), swing in. Make a rat, then slam a Massacre (which I should have done first). At that point, I don't think my opponent could recover.

I luck-sac'd more than once though. Like when my opponent played the "destroy target non-black creature" creature in the cube into a board with all black creatures... minus a baneslayer angel of his. It wasn't a may ability either.

I'm surprised Pernicious Deed didn't make the cut mainboard, and I feel like the deck has a bit much on the high-end (although Sol Ring, Golgari Signet, Dark Ritual, and Birthing Pod all halp out a bit there), but obviously it worked out well enough.

Yea, I tried to get as much ramp as I could for the deck when I realized I had 4 different 6+ drops. Those 4 are also cards that can all win the game on their own as well. But then I realized I didn't have enough to justify keeping the one-drop dorks. The goal was to get enough early wall-ish creatures to survive until the big stuff. And Pack Rat is just a win-con on it's own.

As for the Deed, I considered it. But I figured that it'd likely blow up as much if not more of my own stuff than my opponent's. So I kept it out with it in mind in case I felt I needed to board it in. Though, as I said, it mostly worked out well enough because I got lucky.

I took the phantom points they gave out for the free cube and did a KTK sealed. This is about the best pool I have ever seen. Abzan and Mardue are both insane.

So, new mechanic announced. You put stuff from a zone (usually library) face down on the board as a 2/2. You can turn it up for morph cost OR casting cost if it's a creature without morph. Neat.

I have a couple of decks centered around the idea of chasm skulker and drawing cards, can the kind forumgoers here take a look and gib advice plox?
Modern: all the cards, all the squids
Standard: library of squids
library of squids, renovated wing
Note: None of these are for competitive play, and all three decks exist only online. That said, I'd be interested to hear what you all have to say.

The Modern version seems pretty slow against the current metagame. I'd focus on having a lot more cantrips to trigger the Skulker instead of the creature-based engine (which doesn't have enough ETB effects or a toolbox to really abuse Pod).

Perhaps something like:
3 Chasm Skulker
4 Lotus Cobra (if too pricey, substitute Sakura-Tribe Elder)
1 Consecrated Sphinx
4 Delver of Secrets
3 Remand (if too pricey, use Mana Leak)
3 Deprive
4 Serum Visions (hard to replace, but I could see a mix of other spells like Quicken, Sleight of Hand, or Jace Beleren working out)
4 Thought Scour
4 Treasure Cruise
3 Explore
3 Gitaxian Probe (If too pricey, substitute Peek)
4 Vapor Snag

4 Breeding Pool
4 Misty Rainforest (if fetches are too pricey, use basic lands)
2 Windswept Heath
2 Flooded Strand
4 Island
3 Forest
1 Reliquary Tower
