MTGO Beta

Postby Woland » 29 Jan 2013, 12:31

Two reasons I wanted to make this thread:

1) I wanted to talk about ways it could be better. It's a beta, and if you have ideas you should tell Wizards about them, but discussion is fun too.

2) I know a lot of people don't like the Beta, but I don't understand why. I only got into MTGO after the beta started, so it's all I've ever used, but having seen both on numerous videos, I honestly don't see the appeal of the older over the newer. I was hoping people could share their thoughts.

And, as always when pure opinions are involved, don't be belligerent, don't be derogatory, and don't troll. Please.

Anyway, I wanted to offer to you all here (and I've offered to Wizards) that the portion of the screen reading "add basic lands" in the deck building screen should not be the same size and shape as the sideboard on the drafting screen. It needlessly takes up a lot of screen real estate. In that respect, I think the original client had a better working option.

I dislike it because half the time when I do a draft or a tournament with it, it decides to crash for no apparent reason half way through a match and then I have to quickly switch clients anyway. Also, the original client could be installed and used on any computer, I had it on my POS netbook and it still worked, the new client is too resource intensive a lot of the time.

I love the new client. When it works. I hate the new client. When it doesn't work.

All my complaints about the new client involve it not working properly. I love the interface and everything about how it works.

It's interesting that two people have had problems with the new client crashing. I have not had those problems. I've had crashes related to an unreliable internet connection, but none because of the client itself.

I get the resources argument. I have the beta running on my desktop but I'm thinking about putting the original client on an old laptop so I can have something on vacation. The utility of a resource un-intensive client is not to be overlooked.

I have not tried the beta on a more simple machine with the settings turned all the way down.

Resources... Had 1 crash... The "Add Basic Lands" button... Yeah. What's already been said are my faults with it. Everything else seems good. :)

Except maybe the "dancing enchantments" issue. :D

There's a new version of the wide beta going online today. Hopefully it addresses some of that.

The dancing cards tick me off, the windows poping up all over the place and hiding are irritating, and I understand the red zone but I dont like it. I also dont like the layout of the stats on the left side, I dont know how I would make it better I just dont like the vidoals of it.

I have also had crashing issues so I dont use it.

I like that is shows the draft order and I like the idea of everything being resizable but I dont like how it works, I want to make the cards in my hand bigger but I cant.

I know its going to be the standard and I hope they fix it.

From what I've gleaned from the Internet, no actual changes. Just bugfixes.

I will take ANY bug fix they want to throw at it.

Still buggy though, had to log into old client to get the LR clan invite the other day.
