Well, the combo doesn't kill people at odd life totals.

Remember, if you have Dictate of the Twin Gods on the field and you tap Heartless Hidetsugu, anyone with an ODD LIFETOTAL SURVIVES.

But the'd all be on one life though, right? It'd still be enough of a problem to make them consider killing me, or me being asked to drop the bomb and stop the biggest threat.

That's why you make sure YOU are the ONLY ONE with an odd lifetotal...

The goal isn't to win as such. If I can, I will win, but if I can't I'm happy to just use politics to make it so people have to play nice.

I just imagine this scene;
you've got the commander out, someone with an even life total goes to attacks, you just look at them with 5 mana up.

Even though it's a bit more telegraphed, you can also use Gratuitous Violence. It's 2RRR, but it ensures only YOUR creatures deal double damage. And it's not just combat damage.

Heartless Hidetsugu would go well in a Gisela, Blade of Goldnight deck too.

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk
I'm desperately trying to figure out a way to get ten red mana turn one so you can turn one that combo but I can't see it.
(Also, I know I keep bumping this, but I really am hungry for advice. It's finally at a point where I'm happy-ish with it, but I'm sure it could be improved: The cRPG Deck.

You'll also need to give Heartless Hidetsugu haste. I'm sure there's a way...

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk
It's not easy, though. The best idea I've managed is ten mana, which gets you both creatures out but not haste. If Dictate, rather than Hidetsugu, were the commander, you could do it with an Ikea Gun opening draw, but not the other way around, I think.

Lightning Greaves.

Well, follow the spells:
Discarding Simian Spirit Guide adds a R.
Rite of Flame puts you from 1 to 2.
Desparate and/or Pyretic Ritual puts you from 2 to 3.
Seething Song puts you from 3 to 5.
Geosurge puts you from 4 to 7, but you can only use it on creatures and artifacts, but that's Hidetsugu and Greaves mana right there.
There's some more, but they mean sacrificing:
Lotus Petal costs 0, sac and you get 1 of any.
Infernal Plunge costs 1, sac a creature and you get 3.
But Treasonous Ogre costs 4, you pay 3 life, and you get 1.
So, an easy way to do this is:
Land drop = R
Discard Simian/Lotus Petal = RR
Either 2-drop Ritual = RRR
Seething Song = RRRRR, using 4 so 1 floating
Treasonous Ogre, paying 33 life = RRRRRRRRRRRR
Hidetsugu, Greaves, and Gratuitous Violence, tap for death.
So, with Hidetsugu as the Commander, your opening hand must have a Land, one of the R generators, one of the Rituals, Seething Song, Treasonous Ogre, Greaves, and Violence. Not saying it's easy, only possible.

Ah, there we go! I didn't know of Simian or Treasonous Ogre, that's what caught me. Duckay also pointed out on the way back home that this would form a turn one win, as being the active player wins if everyone loses all their life at the same time.

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk
Yeah. Simian Spirit Guide and Lotus Petal are all major keys to OTKs in EDH. Treasonous Ogre is just a really mean way to get there in Red. As I said, it's highly unlikely to pull that hand, but possible, especially since two cards can be interchanged with other cards in the deck, giving you more of a chance than just 7 singles.

I made a commander deck with all the spells being pump spells in some way.

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk
yeah, we had someone kill the entire table at the LGS with Hidetsugu and Dictate out. I was looking for some way to pay one life and not die (because an odd life total actually sets you to one with that combo). Too bad I didn't have a City of Brass Painland out.

So here's my first draft of the Heartless Hidetsugu deck. I'll be adding more Furnace of Rath type effects when I can

Leobwin: I think you'll win one game with that.
Probably not two. At least, not with the same players.

So I'm a huge fan of bears (the actual animal not the magic 2/2 for 2) and was curious if anyone knew if there were enough cards to build a bear tribal deck?

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk
There are a total of 19 Bears in Magic: 3 white, a blue, and 15 green. There are no "Bear Lords" or any specific cards that augment bears, though you can use cards like Adaptive Automaton, Brass Herald and Shared Triumph. Distant Melody and Harsh Mercy are great Tribal cards, and don't forget: Changelings, like Mirror Entity and Chameleon Colossus, also count as Bears, as well. I also have a Bant tribal deck - Allies, since I couldn't get it to be 5 colors properly - and most of the cards I mentioned are in it.

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk
So I have an idea for a Grixis deck that just takes control of everything or kills it. Who'd be the best General? I plan on using Sedris, the Traitor King because he's the only Grixis coloured legend I have, and his name would be fairly flavourful.

Cool, thanks WickedBoy6. Maybe I could brew up something playable in modern around bear tribal.

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk
I know, I know, it's the cRPG deck again. What can I say, it's tormenting me.
I can't get the landbase right. Any suggestions for how this thing should look, landwise? Otherwise I think I like where the deck is right now.
