4-0 at FNM. The first draft I've placed first in. Mono black, because I tried it at pre-release and it really worked well. Cards of note were nightmare, 2x corrupt, diabolic tutor, sanguine bond, and a cauldron.

Also opened a Burning Earth and a Mutavault in the draft packs. Prize packs didn't really have anything of note.

Likely should have lost the final round but in game 3 my opponent made a tiny error which really would only only bought me an extra turn to dig for an answer, but rather than playing it out further he just rage scooped. I'm not complaining.

Was the Sliver Construct just there to fill space?

I'm sensing a pattern. Not a single divination or opportunity to be seen though. Mindseeker came out in every match and never hit even once *L*

The black was the sideboard I never went into.

Also nothing was so annoying as a traumatize for 4.

I won first match 2-0 on mill, lost second match 2-1, won first lost second when he sided into 60 cards, then I sided out of mill and into more creatures blue but lost third in a close game. Then won the third match 2-0 on mill.

Match two game one he was at 9 I traumatized for 4 then mill stoned, then passed and next turn I top decked opportunity.

Open Archangel of Thune. Build decent white with pacifism and double celestial flare. round one encounter full BW Angelic Accord deck with accord, sanguine bond, and a bazillion lifegain. Get corrupted out in round 1. Win round 2. Round 3:

7 card hand, one mana
6 card hand, one mana
5 card hand, one mana, but a couple two drops and I'm on the draw.

No lands for 5 turns. Opponent slams the accord on turn 4 while I have a Negate sitting in my hand unable to land. Finally get some lands going and get back on my feet, could have Dispersed his Accord and got it on the way back down but never drew a second blue source before he got lifegain online. Bleh.

At least the draft was essentially payed for. Need to open a couple of those ladies in paper.

Nothing is so horrible as losing on a great hand with no land. I kept a 2 lander with two two drops, two three drops and a four. then 12 turns later lost without another land.

I dont even want to win that way.

I have found the secret to M14 draft! It's a simple 3-step process that follows...

Step 1- Open Jace
Step 2- Play Jace
Step 3- Win

But seriously, this was by far the easiest 3-0 (6-0) I can remember. Some luck for sure as I resolved Jace 3 times (once each round) and opponents scooped soon after, and I also had Jace and was able to cast him in each of the other 3 games. The last round he was countered but I still won, and the first 2 rounds I was so far ahead it was actually quicker to cast other things to win. But yeah, Captain Obvious here saying that Jace is just insane in limited. The whole deck...

Yep. Even if your opponent manages to kill or counter your Jace chances are the resources he invested to do that will put him behind

Ok, I only use the beta... why are some of the names red? I can't find a pattern to it...

Names in red are "dont have this card in your collection"

Just like the yellow stripes in the beta.

I dont like constructed all that much, so I have been doing phantoms.

With the new phantom ticket system, I think I will be playing A LOT more phantom drafts.

Strangely enough, with the new phantom prize system, I think I will be playing less. I liked the idea that I could win real (virtual) boosters.

I really liked that, but now I don't think I'll be paying for another phantom sealed game for awhile. I definitely don't pay for my next one, and if I win two or more games, I don't pay for the one after that. If I win three... Well, yeah.

I guess it is a cheap way to occupy many hours. I've spent more for less entertainment... like that time I paid to see The Host.

Yeah, I was really getting into phantom events. at 4 tickets, you won two out of three games and won a pack, which was worth 3.2-3.5ish tickets. You win 3/3 you get three packs about 10 tickets or two and half events. Now its 6 tickets and if you win 2 games you get 8 phantom or 3/4 of another event, you win 3/3 you get 16 phantom tickets you get one event and half of a second.

They raised the price by 150% and they made is so you can no longer get any prizes out.

They are also paying out for some of the events in phantom tickets. NumotTheNummy has over 500 phantom points now, which you cant trade so you cant sell. You can only use them to pay for more phantom events, but not for future tournaments.

The up side is you can use them to pay for cube drafts, however, cube events now pay out phantom tickets... 0_o

You can ONLY give wizards your money now there is NO way to get it back out.

I understand why they kept MTGO boosters and Drafts on par with paper events, but this is just irritating I cant even eloquently express it.

The price went from 4 tickets to 6, and instead of getting something with "real" value, you just get "another game"

You do actually get packs for Cube drafts, at least the single elimination ones. Both players who make the finals get a draft set of the current old format that shows up with the cube (this upcoming time it's Ravnica block) and some Phantom points. So there is a way to turn a bunch of phantom tickets into actual value when Cube is up. However it is only the single elimination cube drafts, so there's only about a 1 week window every few months to do it.

So if I save up a whole bunch and win cube 8-4's I can get SOME very limited value back out since the old sets are normally only worth like 1.5ish to the bots.

yeah, that makes up for the 150% increase in price.

Movin' this post across from the main MtG thread, 'cause I forgot this thread existed...

My FNM deck from tonight - "Why can't I hold all these cards?", ft. the Cleanup step.

Turns out, if your plan is "I have 8 cards in my hand, I should cast a spell so I don't just have to discard", then choosing Divination may not be the best option.

Still... easy 3-0.

Most fun play: Clone an opponent's Ogre Battledriver, then drop hasty Scroll Thief and bash in for 3 + a card. UB aggro, yo.
Most friend-losing play: Opponent is mana-screwed, stuck on 3 land most of the game. Clone my own Jace's Mindseeker.
Most fancy-pants play: Domestication opponent's Bonescythe Sliver. Opponent tries to Chandra's Outrage the sliver. In response, Disperse the Domestication - the creature still dies, he takes the bonus shock, and I can Domestication something else next turn.
While no one overhear you quickly tell me not cow cow.
but how about watch phone?

Yeah it's kind of like if phantom events were a super-highway leading towards Valuetown, only now they've closed all but one lane off and you have to pay a higher toll to use it and it actually just leads to the town of SomeValueville. So there's still the opportunity to get some value, you just have to pay more up-front and take the exact one lane to get it... and hope you don't pop a tire on the way there
