Loading Ready Fan Draft.

Postby Lord Hosk » 09 May 2014, 22:11

Welcome to the Unofficial LRR MTGO Fan Draft thread.

The current plan is Every week will be the same time, there was a lot of confusion last week and it really didnt work out well and after asking for more input I got two responses.

Saturday 6PM PST 9PM EST Sunday 2AM BST 1PM AEDT

Sorry Europe

Current format is 1X Fate Reforged 2X Kahns of Tarkir Swiss draft in the release area.

The rules are as follows.
1. Dont be a dick, win or lose its a game have fun or drop, your choice.
2. Dont talk about your deck during draft or deck building, thats a violation of Wizards TOS.
3. Have fun, OR ELSE, (or else come back next week and try again, for a better time)
4. If someone is abusive to you, please let them know, if they keep it up, let people know but dont be abusive yourself in letting people know.

The way it works.
We meet in a special LRR Fandraft Chat here about 10-15 minutes before the scheduled event. After the designated time we wait for a Queue to fire as soon as that queue fires we all start jumping into the designated draft. Not the first event available, but the first one AFTER the current one fires. IE its 7:59 and a draft fires one person joins the next pod so at 8:01 there is one person in there, so we wait.

One of the Chat mods will say "get ready" when the time is getting close. After the first pod fires, join the next pod, we had about 18 people in the chat room who were going to play and after the first pod fired people said "oh I missed it" no they just missed pod 1. The last pod may be a mix of fans and not fans... sorry.

To participate you have to:
1. Have Magic the gathering online installed and updated.
2. Have your own entry product. 14 event tickets or the correct 3 boosters plus two tickets.(I recommend the second option as 3 boosters cost 8-9 tickets from trade bots)
3. Be logged in and waiting to join at the appropriate time.
4. Not be abusive to your fellow drafters.

Personally, I'd prefer the night time slots, I'm less likely to be able to make it during the day.

So right now we are leaning to
Saturday the 17th/Sunday the 18th(region dependent)
Saturday 8PM EST 5PM PST Sunday 1AM BST Sunday 10AM AEST

Based on the two bits of preferance I have gotten.

Im thinking Theros Full Block Swiss Draft unless there is a opinion for something else.

Block swiss definitely sounds like the best idea to me.

The only other thing that might be good is full block swiss of a different block. For example, RTR doesn't fire very often at this point, we could definitely fill the entire queue. Of course... then we'd be drafting RTR, and maybe people aren't interested in that? We should probably run a quick poll when we gather in the chat room.

That reminds me, if the Twitch channel is being used at that time (bonus streams) is this just canceled?

Saturday the 17th is the day we're planning the End Raid on LRRcraft, so I don't know if any MineCraft people will show up.

Also, if there's a bonus stream, certainly count me out.

We CAN reschedule it. I was going to see who might be going in the LRRcraft thread later today. Also, actually timing the thing hasn't been hashed out either.

It's kind of late for me, but what the heck it's a Saturday. Or a Sunday. Depending on your timezone.

So I won the second pod with this:
Image

Highlights:
Won game 1 of round 2 against Foxmar, at 0 cards in my library.
Pack 3 Pick 1, took Gary, not even in black. Took another part way through. Very glad I did, as jedijon was mono-black and Dix was black/green.

UGH I WANTED THAT GARY.

I could have seriously moved into black right away in Pack 1 and seriously just gone straight Mono Black. Our pod had the black to support it. Hell, I could have even gone monoblack with what I ended up picking. I went 1-2 and misplayed and punted left and right with F2ing through my second main but I'm not very used to MTGO drafting. What can I say... growing pains! That said, this whole fan drafting is super fun and we definitely need to make this a thing. Perhaps every other weekend or like the first and third weekends of the month?

My deck wasn't amazing but I went 2-1 with unintended mill almost winning me several of the games.

DIDN'T MILL ME OUT BRO.

I probably could have gone 1-2 against you instead of 0-2 if I hadn't punted on the 5/4 Hoplite and later moves.
