Morph needs to stay a special action to prevent feel-bads from getting your morph creature shocked.

Is shock in standard when Khans goes live?

Depends on whether they decide to reprint Shock or at least give us a functional reprint, I guess. If they want Walls to matter, I can see Shock taking a break from Standard to prevent players from playing cheap burn and push the game slightly longer.

Looking at Zurgo, I'm thinking there will be some cheap 2-damage spell. I mean Lightning Strike is in standard for a good long while yet.

Yeah, thinking about it, they're probably going to keep Morph a special action. I just hope it doesn't mean the clans will be stuck with trash mechanics because of it, NWO and all that. Perhaps Morph will only be at uncommon and higher?

After watching the video, I finally see the pattern to how the mana symbols are ordered for the clans. Start with a color, and the following color will be the first enemy when going WUBRG order, then finally tacking on the ally color that doesn't turn it into a shard. Pretty interesting, and now I don't mind it as much.

Morph actually needs to be a special action because of rules... primarily, that a face-down creature doesn't actually have an activated ability to turn it face-up, or indeed any abilities at all. Because the Morph ability is on the part that's face-down. If they did come up with a way to make turning a morph face-up a normal activated ability that used the stack, then you'd need to reveal the face of the card in order to know what the costs are you need to pay to activate it, so while it's on the stack you're in this weird state where the card is still face-down as a 2/2, but the card is probably physically face-up to reveal the costs... all in all, too many unintuitive interactions.

Making it a special action means it joins playing a land and activating a mana ability as things you just do, without having to worry about someone responding and interrupting what you're doing in a weird state. And it means that the game can have you paying the costs before you reveal the card, because you're still doing both as part of the same action, and obviously you know what the cost is (since you're allowed to look at the card's face).

Re: Shock rotating out: Magma Spray is in standard. However, what phlip brings up is also a consideration.

Didn't want to start a new thread for my spec, but I haven't seen it listed yet.

Why are the wedges centered on an odd color? Because they are going to be the shards instead in set #3. Abzan is WGB right now and will be Bant in the third set.

I also want to make a land prediction. The Zendikar fetches will get a reprint in set #3. That's not TOO far fetched. To add a bit more spice to my prediction: there will be a five-card cycle of fetchable utility lands in the second set. Something like Moonring Island -- it's an Island, it's fetchable, but its primary purpose isn't mana fixing. These will flavorfully fit into one wedge and one shard, depending on which large set you're drafting them with. They hopefully won't be reprints of the Shadowmoor ones though, as those are generally poor and the "control X permanents" part of them isn't very flavorful here.

I had the same idea, but I really hope we're wrong. I want Sultai to stay GBU.
