The KHAAAAAAAAAAAAANs of Tarkir Spoiler Thread

Postby MowDownJoe » 28 Aug 2014, 08:57

So... PAX is this weekend. And with it, the flood gates will be open on this spoiler season. But until then, we have a few cards to admire. I'm really looking forward to that green piker with morph that taps for Temur and unmorphs to add GUR. And I'm sure I'll be losing games to Dragon Throne of Tarkir. (Although the fact that we have chairs as equipment now...)

Oh man, that piker looks sweet! ramp to 6 on turn 4 off of only one card? Damn!

The thing that gets me about that, is that it's quite playable without morph, which means you can have more morphs in your deck to bluff with.

Nothing worse than there being only 1 playable morph creature, making it easy for your opponent to guess what it is.

One slightly-overlooked implication of Khans is the fact that the Wedges now have official names... So long "Teneb, Numot, Oros, Vorosh, Intet"... Goodbye "Necra, Raka, Dega, Ana, Ceta"...

Hello Abzan, Jeskai, Mardu, Sultai, and Temur. :)

Making Jeskai and Mardu decks is appealing to me, and maybe some Abzan decks.

Also, I'm seeing it as SOUNDclaw Mystic.

Entirely possible, the spoiler (or at least the one I'm looking at) is translated, so the name could quite easily be a bit different in English.

Personally, I prefer Necra, Raka, Dega, Ana and Ceta to Abzan, Jeskai, Mardu, Sultai and Temur, and I'm going to keep calling them by the first set of names! But, still, I think most people didn't like the wedge names. Good move to rename them instead of just forcing people to call them unpopular names.

It also gives newer players like myself names to call them by since those names haven't been used in quite a few years.

People keep saying they're going to call them by the old names, but I think anyone who plays Standard or Limited will quickly move to the new ones, once you have to start talking about Abzan Charm and Warcaller of Mardu, or whatever other cards have the names in them.

It's true, I swore I would never be able to keep the guild names straight but it's pretty entrenched now. We'll get there on the wedges.

I dunno. It's likely just cause they're new, but the wedge names feel forced to me. None of them really roll of the tongue. It might get better when I hear them said rather than reading them though.

I don't really care for the old names either. I prefer the 'unofficial' names. America, Junk, Rug, Bug, and... well, R/W/B never had a good name, but I was growing fond of 'Team Rocket' due to being a nerd.

I'm super excited to see what they do for the wedge charms. We've already had 2 cycles of shard charms, so it'd make a ton of players mad if they didn't do wedge charms.

I'm also hoping for wedge Ultimatums, but I'm not so sure we'll get those.

I feel like charms are a given, but I feel like Ultimatums are more directly linked to the flavor of Alara block.

I meant more so conceptually; the same type of card. The name of the cycle may be different.

I'm going to be forcing shards while drafting Khans block. It'd be funny to see myopponants reaction to me playing them in a wedge block

So looks like the Onslaught fetch lands are being reprinted in Khans... not that it's a big deal or anything

Well, Looks like I get to pimp my Modern decks with my Onslaught fetches.

Also, I like that the 5-drop hasty dragon in KTK is Sarkhan.

Preordered a case, gonna buy singles, and sit on the boxes.

Also, this might signal potentially having the ZEN fetches spread throughout the rest of the block as well.

If Khans is a good draft format, then I'll pick up a case for sure to sit on it. Fetches will likely already be enough to make it worth the long-term hold. If it's good for limited, the price for sealed product will be even higher. Same with the second set.

As a note, given some of MaRo's previous statements, people are speculating that the ZEN fetches are going to be reprinted. Meaning I need to get rid of a Marsh Flats pretty quick...

These all look great, though I hope they reveal Temur's mechanic soon.

note 1: Fetchlands!?

note 2: Pls reprint Grisly Salvage for Sultai, pls.

So, someone on facebook made a decent point. The numbers between the fetches seem pretty wide. 230, 233, (not sure on Delta), 248, 249(?). We can be confident there are the five wedge lands. But that's still a pretty huge gap... could we see the other fetches being reprinted?

Or possibly panorama equivalents. While the rest of the fetches would be awesome, I think they'd spread them throughout the block. We all know Wedges need lots of mana fixing to work in limited, so the high number of land slots makes sense.

That would make sense. 5 panoramas, 5 tri-color tapped lands, 5 fetches, and 5 basics. There seem to be about 20 total.
