Oooooh, I just figured out Ugin's Nexus! It counteracts the extra turn that Emrakul gives you, and when Emrakul attacks, you sac it to Annihilator to get an extra turn.

Also, Ghostfire Blade makes me really happy because of what it represents in the coming future.

I'm super excited to see Ugin later in the block. It seems like the block story is set up to be Sarkhan as Sorin going back in time to resurrect Ugin.

I'd be totally pumped to see Ugin.

I'm also a little interested in Ghostfire Blade for some kind of Modern Infect deck. There are 3 perfectly serviceable main deck colourless infect creatures (Inkmoth Nexus, Ichorclaw Myr, Necropede) and having such a cheap equip might be really useful for a slightly grindier infect style deck.

It seems cool, and for limited it's cheap to equip to morphs, but it seems like Cranial Plating would already do what you want for a modern deck. Or even Bonesplitter.

I think the extra toughness over those options might be relevant.

In the end, likely not of course but it's still an interesting card. History has shown the power of hyper-efficient equipment.

Ghostfire blade is neat with morphs, I think. :)

I was reading through the Planeswalker's Guide to Khans of Tarkir and notice something odd. Jeskai seemed a LOT longer than both of the other two clans given detail. So I put it in a document, removed all the images and formatting, and found out about how long each was. Abzan and Sultai were about 2 and 4/5 pages. Jeskai was about 5 and 1/5 pages long. This seems weird to me. Either creative really loved the Jeskai (wouldn't surprise me given the color combination and subject), Jeskai will play a larger role in the mythos of what happens and needed the extra info, Jeskai will be pushed because why not, or it's just a weird little thing that ended up happening during writing. My guess is the last one. But I found it interesting anyways.

Oh my god, you guys, have you seen Clever Impersonator? There hasn't been a clone effect this good since Phyrexian Metamorph!

I like it, but I really feel it should've been rare, not mythic. In fact, most of the mythics this set are... not mythic. They all feel like they should be rares to me, other than the Khans and the walkers.

I just hope it becomes a $1 rare like most other clones. Papa needs it for his commander deck.

This set seems lowish on the power level. Which I actually like, but interesting to see.

I'm probably just a terrible judge of power level, but I've felt like Khans was sitting at at least middling power level. They hype is real with me.

Eh, It's at about the same power level as Theros so far, in my book. Overall quite low, with a few standouts. I'll reserve final judgement until the entire set's spoiled, but they've been slowly lowering the power level of Standard ever since Zendikar, with the exception of New Phyrexia, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the trend continue.

I would hardly call RTR block a lowering of power level.

But it was, compared to Innistrad block, which was weaker than Scars, which (sans N.P.) was weaker than Zendikar.

Sphinx's Revelation disagrees with you :S

And damn, I was hoping to get some polluted delta's for a Sultai deck eventually, but the preliminary prices on the new ones, damn.

ANyone else notice that the regular version of Dragon Throne of Tarkir is empty, while the promo art has Zurgo sitting on it? It makes me think that there might actually be 5 arts for the Throne, one with each Khan on it

Sphinx's Revelation really isn't very powerful outside of standard. (Yeah, it sometimes sees play in UWR in Modern, but the variant that runs Sphinx's Rev is falling pretty heavily out of favor) The real power of RTR block was Supreme Verdict, Voice of Resurgence, Domri Rade, Abrupt Decay, and Deathrite Shaman, and granted, Deathrite is absurdly powerful, but Innistrad had Delver, Liliana, Snapcaster, Griselbrand, Cavern of Souls, Lingering Souls, etc...

Scars (even excluding New Phyrexia) before it had Mox Opal, Green Sun's Zenith, Sword of Feast and Famine, Wurmcoil Engine, Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas, etc...

Zendikar had Goblin Guide, Valakut, Gideon Jura, the 3 Eldrazi Titans, Bloodghast, fetch lands, man lands, and not to mention Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Stoneforge Mystic.

Now that the LRR spoiler card out... I find it hilarious, flavourful, and actually like it for limited. It's only in a single color. That seems like it's going to be a decent benefit on it's own given the amount of multicolor rares. For 5 mana, you get 5 power (good, but not exciting) and 9 toughness. Enough that it'll win combat when blocking for days. And when it attacks... well, it's slow, but it's hard to kill. It also has bonus evasion to help kill blue-players. And going back to the tri-color point, that seems like it'll be a lot of people.

And it plays well with wrath effects. The main thing I'm not sure about is why it's Sultai. The card seems more Abzan.

Man, Mardu Charm is amazing. I'm sad that it absolutely ruins Courser of Kruphix. Spell on top of their library? Duress is away at instant speed in their draw step. Land on top after they draw? Four damage to their courser instead.
