Brewing a weird mono red modern deck

Postby ForOhFor Error » 10 Nov 2014, 14:35

So, if anyone remembers the Burn at the Stake deck from the end of INN/RTR standard, this is a version of that in mono red. I call it "Make&Stake." Here's the list:

Decklist - Click to Expand
//Creature (12)
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Young Pyromancer

//Instant (16)
4 Battle Hymn
4 Desperate Ritual
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Pyretic Ritual

//Sorcery (8)
4 Burn at the Stake
4 Hordeling Outburst

//Land (24)
20 Mountain
4 Teetering Peaks

Or here on mtgvault:

Basically, token generation and red rituals, into Burn at the Stake, with a backup of some creature-based aggro.

I'm trying to make it into something viable for modern (though I'm not really intending to put it together) and have basically no clue what I'm doing, because I don't really know the meta. Any help would be appreciated.

I feel like the deck is better served just cutting the rituals and Burn at the Stake and running Goblin Bushwhacker over Burn at the Stake, since you'll be getting largely the same effects for far less mana and also far fewer dead cards.

I am thoroughly disappointed that you're not running a single weird in this deck. I suggest a blistercoil or frostburn weird for flavor.

last time i remember using burn at the stake it was more of a mono red storm deck during the scars/Inn block. it mostly used the same idea but it focused on using kuldotha rebirth as the token makers and used reforge the soul and past in flames to keep the combo going until the peak amount of goblins were made. the main sac outlit for the rebirths were ichor wellsprings,mox opals, and memnites. adding young pyromancers into the build would add a lot of redundancy. also it had devil's play as a backup plan.
