New blog: Commander's presence!

Postby lazylantern » 22 Aug 2015, 18:42

Hi everyone

I started a new blog where I will write articles and post budget commander decks.

I'll run with a theme every week and make a deck for <100$ (paper) that will be as on-theme as possible.
For future entry, I will have an interview with an "expert" on the theme I will explore.
The deck will be on theme and competitive. A deck is no good if it can't win. Budget and Theme doesn't necessarily mean inferior ;)

Let me know what you think of the blog, the deck, anything really.

A lot of cards in your angels/demons deck seemed very off-theme, but the idea was interesting. Some of your upcoming themes are likely going to require a great deal of deckbuilding creativity - do you already have plans in motion for all these?

Yes; the Chaos Space Marine of Khorne deck is almost complete and I've been playtesting the rough draft on MTGO already.
During my interview with the expert (local CSM player) i learned of the mechanics introduced lately and it got my mind racing. The rough version was 6 tickets on MTGO btw; less than a third of my angelic Demons deck.
I have 2 good ideas for Erza, the interview will make me decide which direction I go,

If you have suggestions, you are also more than welcome to send them to me.

I have a question for you. What do you consider off-theme from the Angelic Demons deck?

Skullclamp, Sol Ring, Swiftfoot Boots, Cathar's Crusade, Faith's Reward, Swords to Plowshares, Sidisi, Relic Seeker, and the vampires all seem out of flavour imho. But flavour can be subjective.

I see where you are coming from. The first deck was an exercise for me to transform my latest brew into a <100$ to have something on the blog pending the first deck. Believe me, cutting 200$ of value from the original deck to this version was no easy feat. I describe in the article some of the cuts that increase the cost of my actual deck, if you want an idea of how the deck works. Cathar's Crusade is a leftover from the original; Conspiracy kinda makes the Resto Angel go crazy if you have something like Cathar's Crusade.
Starting with the Chaos SpaceMarines of Khorne, the blog is only on-theme.
I may re-visit the Angels/Demons one day keeping more to the theme if something IRL inspires me. (Movie, Tv Show, Videogame, book, etc)
